Great Lakes Inter-Tribal Council is a non-profit organization formed by the Native American Tribes of Wisconsin. We serve all Wisconsin tribes by providing administration of grant-funded programs either directly or with sub grants. Programs range from Child and Maternal services to Education to Disability and Elder benefits. Our Mission is: To Enhance the lives of all Native American People.


Grant Writer


The Grant Writer is responsible for facilitating preparation of proposals and grant applications, and performs professional and administrative work in researching, identifying, developing, and responding to public and private grant opportunities to support existing and planned program activities or special institutional programs. Daily attendance is an essential function of this position.


Principal Duties
: Develop and write grant proposals to meet organizational needs as directed by management and leadership. Research and identifying funding sources, ensure codes and regulation compliance, draft proposal applications and monitoring their status during and after submission. Communicate, coordinate and cooperate closely with organizational members to facilitate proposal development. Work closely with appropriate personnel to determine goals and objectives, scope, feasibility and funding needs for programs. Maintain report deadline calendar as well as a database of information about funding sources, areas of interest, requirements for funding, status of funding requests, funding received and contact information. Maintain grant application table for all Programs/Departments. Gather and maintain files of grant (funded and not funded) electronically and in paper files, including award notices, grant tracking and all related correspondence. Follow all internal and external grant policies and procedures for grant approval and submission.


Additional Duties:
Engage in ongoing networking activities to remain current on the availability of services to Native Americans. Assure that all services are delivered in a culturally competent manner. Participate on committees, both internally and externally, as deemed necessary and appropriate. Attend all training sessions and meetings as scheduled. Attend conferences, seminars, workshops, and other education events to remain current on technological and informational advances as applicable. Perform other duties as necessary or as assigned to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.


This is a full- time exempt position working at the worksite Great Lakes Inter-Tribal Council in Lac Du Flambeau, Wisconsin.
The salary range is $55,000 to $65,000 based upon experience, with benefits including: Annual/Personal Leave and Holiday Pay; Health, Dental, Life & AD&D, STD and LTD Insurance, FSA and 401k Retirement Plan. Regular work hours are normally Monday through Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm and will usually average 40-45 hours a week. There will be some variation in work hours due to special projects, deadlines, and other concerns. Work is performed at the Great Lakes Inter-Tribal Council Office. This is not a remote position. Minimal travel is required to execute the functions of this position.


Qualifications:

Required: Bachelor's degree in Business, Communications, English or related field. Minimum three years of grant writing and funding experience. Desired: Experience with a Native American Tribal organization and/or not-for profit agency desirable. Individual must possess: excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong computer skills; professional demeanor and appearance; problem solving skills; ability to manage time effectively; self-motivation skills; work effectively under pressure; ability to build positive work relationships with internal and external customers; ability to interact professionally with a wide variety of people. Individual must be able to apply advanced reasoning skills to problem solving and use basic and advanced mathematical skills. Must possess valid driver's license and/or reliable transportation with adequate insurance and ability to travel.
