Job Purpose

To identify and develop public and private grant opportunities to expand sustainable funding sources for

MHMR of Tarrant County programs and services. Responsible for researching, developing and writing inquiries, letters, and proposals. Serves as technical writer for grant proposals and program white papers. Responsible for tracking and monitoring proposals and reports, their deadlines and requirements. Participates in Communications & Development Office activities and projects.

II) Essential Functions

A) Supports Grant Development

i) Assists Senior Director of Development and Grant Supervisor in the process of pre-award planning, organization, research, and preparation, and the post-award administration of various grants.

ii) Writes, compiles, and manages a timeline of grant applications including maintenance and oversight of workflow processes and procedures.

iii) Review drafts of proposals, including project narratives, budget, and other supporting documentation, in a timely manner to meet grant application deadlines.

iv) Lead the development and submission of grants for Behavioral Health and Disability Services when appropriate.

v) Participates in meetings, pre-conference workshops, trainings, and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions on behalf of the grant team, as needed.

vi) Submits applications in the event that Senior Director of Development and Grant Supervisor are unavailable.

vii) Maintains specialized databases and systems (i.e., Microsoft SharePoint) for recording and tracking grant proposals, awards, and related statistical information; creates and distributes standard and special reports, studies, summaries, and analyses, as required.

viii) Maintains a library of reference documentation (i.e., Microsoft SharePoint), including such information as funding agency requirements and forms, investigator profiles and curriculum vitae, abstracts and reference literature, and other pertinent material.

B) Support Fundraising, Marketing, Special Events, Communications

i. Assists with the development and editing of written materials for the communications and development office.

ii. Support marketing and communications strategies; community relations activities, including special event planning (i.e., fundraising events, campaigns, and community events/outreach programs).

C) Exhibit a willingness to assume additional duties; seeks the guidance of supervisor prior to beginning an unfamiliar assignment.

IV) Internal & External Customer Service

A) This position requires extensive internal and external contacts. The Grant & Resource Specialist will accomplish this with above average written and verbal skills.

V) Travel

A) Travel as needed within the city to various community contacts and/or meeting sites

B) Limited travel within the state and out-of-state to attend conferences, training or committee meetings as requested by supervisor.

C) This position may require temporary or permanent re-assignment to any MHMR of Tarrant County facility as determined by funding and/or program needs.

VII) Minimum Qualifications

A) Minimum Education: Associates Degree

B) Defined Education: Business, Communications, English, Journalism, Health or Human Services preferred

C) Preferences: None

D) Substitutions: High School Diploma/GED with for (4) years’ experience in report and grant writing, technical writing, organizing and coordinating a grant initiative program, or public affairs

E) Years’ Experience: Two (2) years preferred

F) Defined Experience: Grant writing, technical writing, organizing and coordinating a grant initiative program, or public affairs

G) License/Certifications: None

H) Special Courses: None

I) Supervisory Experience: None

VIII) Agency Requirements

A) All staff are required to participate in agency Emergency Preparedness and Environmental Safety programs and may be assigned by their department as a key/essential staff level function during critical events or for the purpose of sustaining business continuity.

B) This position may require temporary or permanent re-assignment to any MHMR Tarrant facility as determined by program needs and/or the Division/Director.

C) Assigned work hours may change as the needs of the agency change.

D) The Functional Title of this position may change as the needs of the agency change.

E) All work will be completed within the scheduled work hours. All non-exempt (hourly) employees are expected to clock in and clock out for each work shift, no work should be done off the clock.

F) Prior approval from supervisor is required for all Paid Time Off (PTO) and Overtime.

G) MHMR reserves the right to change, add to or eliminate positions as it deems appropriate.

H) Employment is at will, as well as agency needs may change.

I) Agency dress code is to be followed at all times.

J) Physical on-site presence, including regular attendance and punctuality, is an essential function of this position. Any changes or adjustments to your assigned work schedule or shift hours must be approved by your supervisor in advance.
