Grant-Funded Student Assistance/Records Aide

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
An Associate in Applied Science degree in an administrative office or computer field. Competency in general secretarial and computer skills. Successful experience in handling correspondence and maintaining accurate records. Ability to multitask, problem solve, utilize good judgment, and perform detailed tasks accurately.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in a related field and with one or more years of working with students. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with faculty, staff, and students. Ability to relate to people from differing educational, economic, and social backgrounds. Work experience in an office setting; record keeping experience. Excellent customer service skills with internal and external customers.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists the Director and Counselor in providing assistance on federal student financial aid programs, including the Federal Pell; financial planning; and budgeting. Provides direct, hands-on assistance to students in completing financial aid applications, including the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Compiles cumulative records of data on students (requires both daily/weekly and overall end-of-term review and completion) to include high school transcripts, college transcripts, grades, financial aid, tutoring records, and counseling records. Utilizes Blumen software to enter and maintain data on students. Distributes to faculty “early alert” and midterm monitoring forms and maintains records. Assumes responsibility for preparation and compilation of all outgoing student correspondence. Prepares and duplicates flyers, announcements, and tutoring materials with the assistance of the Tutor Coordinator/Computer Lab Technician. Assists in campus-wide recruitment and retention efforts. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Support Services.

COMPETENCIES:
A strong work ethic. Ability to work independently and collaborate with a team. Demonstrated skills in general computer operations and basic communication forms and styles. General working knowledge of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and other basic financial aid applications. Excellent recordkeeping and organizational skills. An ability to communicate and work with disadvantaged students, tutors, faculty, and staff. An understanding of and commitment to the mission, goals, and objectives of the college.

SALARY:
Position is contingent on annual allocation of grant funds from the U.S. Department of Education’s TRIO Student Support Services Grant.
