Hookerton Family Practice is a local primary care office that was established in 2006. Hookerton Family Practice provides quality health care in a timely fashion. We also have a full lab and x-ray that provides for EKG's and drug screening. We handle worker's comp cases, and corporate accounts.

Position Summary

The Front Desk Medical Office Receptionist is responsible for greeting patients, insurance verification, payment collection, answering phones, scheduling appointments, presenting payment options, and other standard front desk duties.

Essential Functions

  • Welcomes patients and visitors to the medical office
  • Answer patient’s telephone inquiries or referring questions to other staff members
  • Schedule appointments for the physicians and physician assistant to optimize patient satisfaction, provider time and most effective use of examining and treatment rooms. Prepares a daily schedule of examinations for each provider
  • Retrieve patient files from cabinet, checks for correct sequence of papers, inserts new patient record forms, and places files in sequence for physician examination or treatment
  • Maintains reception area in a neat and orderly condition
  • Assists patients with insurance papers and billing questions
  • Opens and sort office mail. Delivers outgoing mail to the post office at end of day
  • Participates in the medical office emergency routine when required. Summons ambulance or EMS or assists other staff members as needed

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent required
  • Minimum of two (2) plus years in a medical office/clinic setting required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance plans
  • Ability to learn software quickly and operate computer, fax machine and email
  • Must be detail oriented and have strong reading/writing skills
  • Must possess professional attitude and telephone courtesy
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced and changing environment
  • Must be self-motivated and take initiative

Working Conditions

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Physical demands include requirement to regularly sit; use hands and fingers; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk; lift up to 10 lbs.; vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
