The Food Services Aide assists with preparation and service of food using proper food handling and food safety techniques for patients, employees and special events, resulting in foods that taste good, are served at the proper temperature, and in an attractive manner in accordance with established standards. Maintains a clean and safe working environment in accordance with established standards. Other duties include: Taking out the trash, Ensuring the availability of clean dishes, utensils, and glassware, delivering food to the patient floors, restock items, clean appliances and machines. sweeping and mopping floors. Document temperature readings of the dish machine during each shift.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Informs cook when additional food items are needed in a timely manner.
• Identifies when food temperature of hot and cold foods is to be taken and where they are documented.
• Adheres to the proper dish washing techniques.
• Allows dishes to air-dry before stacking.
• Keeps the counters, tables and equipment clean and sanitized.
• Keeps the cafeteria stocked with all needed supplies during the day
• Demonstrates ability to prevent spread of infection through proper hand washing and use of personal protective equipment
• Demonstrates ability to take broken equipment out of service and notifies appropriate department for repair. Labels broken equipment
• Maintains appropriate food handling techniques including food procurement, storage, thawing, preparation and holding.
• Demonstrates proper use of cutting boards
• Demonstrates the correct rotation of food items.
• Discards food items as per policy
• Ensures cafeteria is open and ready to serve on time.
• Serves patient meals/snacks accurately in accordance with the planned menu, the patient’s diet order, and food preferences using the correct portion control utensils during the preparation, pre-portioning, and service of food
• Ensures that refrigerator/freezer temperatures are within the appropriate range.
• Records temperatures on appropriate logs and reports any discrepancies to the manager.
• Prepares and/or pre-portions food and alternative items (such as beverages, salads, desserts, and other items assigned by the manager) for regular and therapeutic diets, for the cafeteria, and special events, following planned patient menu, planned cafeteria menu and as instructed by the manager.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

• Previous food services experience preferred in a health care setting
• ServSafe Food Safety Certification
