ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Order raw materials for Float Operations.

Calculate annual raw material usage for supply chain management.

Coordinate the raw material use, inventory, and specifications.

Monitor silo levels daily.

Determine daily batch material use and adjust supplier releases as needed.

Project cullet use, track monthly inventory, and coordinate cullet management.

Calculate batch changes, as required 24/7, to meet Float production schedule.

Assist Fabrication Personnel with special batch or cullet needs (e.g. determine the weight of glass per square feet by thickness and color. Facilitate cullet salvage from the Fabrication Department).

Generate monthly raw material usage inventory and report to accounting department.

Generate monthly cullet inventory and report to accounting department.

Conduct periodic supplier quality meetings.

Develop batch material volume usage projections and release to suppliers each month.

Receive incoming information from suppliers pertaining to volume of materials shipped and rail car numbers or shipper numbers. Record this information on the log sheet.

Calculate raw material usage daily, using information from the Furnace Production Report and batch change report.

Receive CP notice of rail cars, update the track report, and provide a copy to silo batch equipment operator.

Log rail car arrival information in log book from the Track Sheet and trace cars that do not arrive.

Generate Bad Order Form as needed for rail cars as received.

Schedule loading of cullet that is sold and coordinate moves with cullet customer.

Perform defect analysis of glass samples using an x-ray machine and a microscope.

Analyze the physical and chemical properties of incoming raw materials, as needed or upon request.

Review the results of the analysis reports sent to the Nashville Glass Plant by raw materials suppliers.

Record chemical and physical analysis results in logbook for the Float Lab.

Compare the chemical and physical analysis results to Carlex Glass America specifications and accept the raw materials by completing the track report or reject using NGP rejection process.

Notify raw materials suppliers when and why materials are rejected, using NGP rejection process. Maintain a copy of this form on file in the Float Lab.

Request vendor completion of 8d forms for rejection materials.

Determine the most cost-effective analysis procedures available and maintain the materials and equipment necessary to perform the procedures.

Work with the vendors, as required, on Carlex Glass America specifications and requirements.

Assist in supplier audits and assessments with the company supplier technical assurance department.

Communicate with the company buyer, as necessary, regarding the purchase of raw materials.

Assemble and update a procedures manual outlining all raw materials analysis conducted in the Float Operations Float Lab.

Monitor glass for optical properties, each shift 24/7, using a spectrophotometer. Plot and chart data, notify float supervisor for out of spec conditions.

Maintain batch composition, continuously, based on results of analyzed glass properties and adjust as needed, 24/7.

Participate in plant audits as required for laboratory.

Maintain the Float Operations Float Lab and equipment in a safe and orderly manner.

Inspect alum and other power services materials for contaminants and chemical properties as needed.

Calibration of Float Lab product gages using 11 01 00 00 as guide.

Maintain Float batch plant external scale calibration program using 11 02 00 00 as a guide for process gages.

ISO 9001 Internal Auditor for plant

ISO 14001 Internal Auditor for plant

Support fabrication lab personnel

Maintain, as required, Float lab instrumentation, supplies, equipment, etc.

Assist on production floor as needed during things such as thickness changes, bath blow downs, tweel changes.

REQUIREMENTS

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or chemistry or another technical field required

Years of Experience:

2+ years of experience in a laboratory environment desired but not required

Other Requirements:

Experience in TS 16949 methods desired

KEY COMPETENCIES

Advanced/Intermediate skill level with Microsoft Office Suite; Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Hands-on approach to problem solving and analysis.

Excellent Analytical Skills
