GMRC FITNESS CENTER ATTENDANT (NON-EXEMPT, PART-TIME, YEAR-ROUND POSITION)
Hours:
Weeknights (4pm-9pm) and/or Weekends (12pm-5pm)

Nature of Work:
The Fitness Center Attendant is responsible for working the Gary Morava Recreation Center Fitness Center operation and user validation process.
The Fitness Center Attendant is responsible for performing the essential functions as outlined in the analysis. The Fitness Center Attendant works a schedule as determined by the Supervisor of Recreation and Aquatics.
Supervision Received:
The Fitness Center Attendant will report directly to the Supervisor of Recreation.
Supervision Exercised:
The Fitness Center Attendant will not directly supervise any employees.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Check fitness center patrons for daily payment or membership validation.
  • Supervise the conduct of fitness center users and ensure that rules and regulations are being followed.
  • Respond to all inquiries pertaining to fitness center.
  • Follow proper opening and/or closing procedures.
  • Keep orderly files and maintain an organized fitness center desk area.
  • Clean workout machines, carpeting, windows and other cleaning as needed in the fitness center.
  • Follow Park District policies & procedures and use prudent judgement while supervising participants.
  • Conduct 30 second Site Safety Walk Through prior to each shift.
  • Abide by the 3 points of contact.
  • Make recommendations for programs.
  • Perform any other duties or jobs as indicated by the Supervisor of Recreation.
Essential Functions:
  • Must be able to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods of time
  • Able to communicate tactfully and effectively with program participants and co-workers
Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Knowledge of fitness equipment trends and terminology.
  • Possess basic computer skills.
  • Knowledge of park district programs is helpful.
  • Must be CPR/AED/First Aid certified within 6 months of hire (paid training provided by the park district)
Psychological Functions:
The Fitness Center Attendant must resolve differences and problems that arise with patrons. The Fitness Center Attendant is responsible for a safe work environment.

Environmental Considerations:
May be exposed to indoor conditions which may include lighting and temperature.
Cognitive Considerations:
The ability to resolve differences fairly and with good judgment is necessary.
