DESCRIPTION

Seeking a Fire Protection Engineer to join our team at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in Los Alamos, NM, which provides integral mission support to the NNSA. To learn more about LANL, please go to: https://nnsa.energy.gov/aboutus/ourlocations/los-alamos-national-laboratory.

This position is full-time and will serve the Los Alamos National Laboratory in a fully remote capacity.

OVERVIEW

  • Plans and coordinates one or more programs relating to the Laboratory fire protection engineering program, impairment control program, facility and programmatic surveillance program activities in compliance with current codes and standards, DOE orders and best industry practices.
  • Establishes and monitors fire protection and loss prevention programs including fire protection engineering.
  • Assists other fire protection staff in surveillance, and fire alarm system operations.
  • Works with all levels of LANL management and interacts with external agencies and/or community organizations.
  • Reviews and recommends actions on fire protection program related issues.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and 8+ years of relevant experience; additional experience may be considered in lieu of education.
  • Current advanced-level NICET certification(s) in one or more disciplines of fire protection.
  • Demonstrated expert design experience in fire protection systems for commercial and / or industrial facilities.
  • Demonstrated expert application of building codes and standards to facilities designs.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply engineering judgement to facility and operations-based engineering challenges.
  • Demonstrated experience working with AHJ requirements.
  • Demonstrated expert experience leading a design effort.
  • Demonstrated expert ability in preparing calculations, applications of engineering methods, and application of technology aided engineering tools to facility and operations-based engineering challenges.
  • Broad knowledge of industry, regulatory, or Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) complex codes, standards, and criteria pertinent to the particular engineering discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability in coaching, and mentoring junior personnel.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate well, both written and verbally.
  • To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed.
  • Due to the nature of the work, a U.S. Citizenship is required.
