YOUR ROLE

The Financial Reporting Manager, reporting to the Director of SEC Reporting, will be an instrumental member of the financial reporting team focusing on various aspects of US GAAP financial reporting. The right candidate will bring a broad skill set to the job with a strong aptitude in the preparation of SEC and US GAAP financial statements, including compiling and writing footnote and Management Discussion and Analysis (MD&A) disclosures. In this role, you will work across the organization to drive efficiencies in reporting while maintaining a focus on timely execution that supports the Controllership team.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Assist the Director of SEC Reporting with the coordination and preparation of the SEC financial statements and filings, including, but not limited to:
  • Handling Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-Ks and other related filings
  • Writing and compiling MD&A, including providing in-depth analysis of supporting documentation
  • Preparing US GAAP footnote disclosures, including an ability to research existing disclosure requirements and apply new disclosure requirements based on regulatory changes
  • Compiling the cash flow statement and executing controls in a methodical way
  • Conducting quarterly and annual review of extensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) submissions related to assigned footnotes
  • Working with our external auditors on audit deliverables
  • Review press release and presentations as needed to ensure consistency with US GAAP statements
  • Provide cross-functional support to augment the Company’s analytical analysis
  • Support businesses and functional areas on questions and issues that arise during the close
  • Assist with the execution and reporting of relevant stand-alone US GAAP financial statements
  • Support the Company’s strategic initiatives and special projects as needed

MUST HAVE / WHAT YOU BRING

  • BS or BA in Accounting
  • Licensed CPA
  • 5 years of finance or accounting experience within public accounting and/or financial reporting
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • The ability to draft and review footnotes and MD&A
  • Strong computer skills, including desktop and general ledger software
  • Attention to detail with strong critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a culturally diverse work group
  • Ability to foster and promote a team environment and work in cross functional teams
  • Ability to research technical accounting literature and form decisive conclusions
  • Ability to travel to VA some - monthly if needed but mostly quarterly - limited to training sessions and ad hoc Company events

NICE TO HAVE

  • 4 -6 years of experience in public accounting
  • 3 -4 years of experience in financial reporting experience in a multinational insurance company
  • Experience with financial reporting software (e.g., Cognos Disclosure Management/CDM or Workiva)
  • Experience reviewing XBRL tagging, particularly third-party prepared reviewers guides
