Position Summary
The Service Technician is responsible for the installation/replacement, inspection, and operation of gas meters for field service operations. Other duties include, but are not limited to, complying with all safety and regulatory requirements, obtaining, and maintaining Operator Qualification certifications and compliance, and using and maintaining all provided tools. The Service Technician builds and maintains strong working relationships with our customers, their team, and their management team. The Service Technician will help solve problems, make connections, and serve others in this role. They assist team members and their supervisor to improve and/or maintain “superior customer service. Additionally, they work closely with the Field Service department to promote and inspire Extra Mile thinking and performance, companywide. The Service Technician possesses character, professionalism, humility, and morality with a focus on service and support.
Essential Functions/Duties of the position include, but were not limited to
  • Install/replace gas meters
  • Disconnect/shut off gas service
  • Visual inspection of corrosion
  • Relight appliances
  • Application of protective coating on gas meters
  • Installs, programs, and operates wireless meter endpoints, as necessary
  • Perform installation quality control
  • Manage install exceptions and assist others in troubleshooting installs
  • Manage customer reporting requirements for service projects.
  • Comply with all departmental contractor/employee training programs to meet company, customer, and regulatory requirements, including On the Job (OJT) and Operator Qualification training.
  • Must maintain any other required OQs and classroom training or certifications.
  • Comply with company/customer DOT drug & alcohol and environment/safety programs and requirements.
  • Attendance to all departmental safety meetings.
  • Other duties assigned by the manager.

Supervisory Responsibility
This role has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
  • Environment will be inside and outside conditions in all types of weather and may be exposed to extremes of climate and temperatures, high noise levels, and rough terrain.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, and have a strong sense of smell. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, grasping, reaching, twisting, turning, and lifting, all day. This position requires the ability to walk and stand for long periods of time. The employee must frequently lift and move tools, equipment, and materials up to 60 pounds. Specific vision (corrected or uncorrected) abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, field and depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. This position requires a strong sense of smell.
Position Type and Expected Hours
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., 40 hours per week. Hours may vary according to the needs of Field Service work.

Required Education & Skills Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Strong communication skills
  • As a safety requirement, English will be the primary language spoken on all job sites
  • Maintains a valid driver's license from the state in which the position is assigned
  • Maintain a proven safe driving record in accordance with Company standards
  • Reliable transportation to and from all job sites to comply with company working hours
  • Ability to operate basic hand tools.
  • Requires the ability to utilize the Company's internet/intranet website and available resources for data entry, reference, and retrieval tasks.
Other Requirements
  • As a Safety-Sensitive position, pre- and post-employment screenings, including but not limited to drug testing as outlined by the Department of Transportation (DOT) and Pipeline & Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), and motor vehicle record (MVR) background checks are required.
Preferred Education & Skills Experience
  • Experience working with gas utilities or related field
  • Experience with Operator Qualification training and certification
