City Colleges of Chicago (CCC), the largest community college system in Illinois, is made up of seven colleges and five satellite sites, providing more than 70,000 students each year access to a quality, affordable education.


The Federal Work Study Program (FWS) is a federally-funded financial aid program that provides subsidized part-time employment for eligible students in order to assist them with postsecondary financial needs. City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) complies with the Department of Education’s regulations regarding the FWS program and allows students to benefit from this opportunity.


Caminos al Éxito: Pathways to Success is a cooperative grant agreement between Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) and Wright College, funded by Title V. The partnership’s project initiatives are aimed at improving the academic support structures for low-income, first-generation students from diverse backgrounds by expanding services in financial education, student support, and transfer pathways.


PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

The FWS program encourages students to gain experience in their prospective fields by placing them in areas and departments aligned with their area of study whenever possible. Students are able to use their wages towards educational and living expenses.

FWS jobs are available in areas such as academic departments, laboratories, libraries, administrative offices, student centers and several off-campus locations.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Responsibilities

  • Peer mentorship for high school in the Title V grant cohort: current and graduated from the 13 partnered Chicago Public High School partnerships to support engagement in financial education and college information outreach
  • Connecting peers to departments and services that provide academic and social support
  • Assist with grant related event preparations and/or collaborations across units working closely with the Title V initiatives such as Admissions, Advising/Transfer, and Financial Services
  • Making phone calls, developing texting campaigns, and/or other marketing materials to assist with recruitment and awareness of grant related events or initiatives
  • Comfortable managing the grant email account and other social media
  • Other duties as delegated

Reporting to the Wright Title V- Director, Student Development Projects with a dotted line to the Outreach Transition Coordinator


QUALIFICATIONS:

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be willing to undergo a one-week paid mentoring training program.
  • Current Wright College Student enrolled full-time; and successfully completed a minimum of one semester at the time of application to the program.
  • Preferably bilingual/bicultural.
  • Be in good academic standing (2.8 GPA minimum) with no SAP holds.
  • Be willing to work on average 10 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters.
  • Commit to meeting and planning activities for your student group.
  • Have a willingness and a desire to learn from and be of assistance to your fellow students, have good interpersonal and communication skills in one-on-one and group settings, and possess some knowledge of NEIU resources.
  • All positions are "employment at-will".
  • Applicants must be registered for at least six college credit hours, which are part of your program plan.

  • In order to be considered for a Work-Study position your Financial Aid for 2021-2022 must be completed.


Minimum Qualifications:

    • High School Diploma required or actively pursuing a GED at the City Colleges of Chicago.
    • Knowledge of City Colleges of Chicago.
    • Excellent oral communication skills.
    • Excellent customer service skills.
    • Promotes a positive role model and favorable public image as City Colleges of Chicago representative.
    • Adheres to the City Colleges of Chicago Customer Services Excellence Standards.
    • Graduation from High School or equivalent required. Ability to follow oral and/or written instructions, good verbal communications skills.
    • Knowledge of basic office procedures.
    • Must be able to work flexible hours listed above.
