Job Description:

• Manage and monitor all aspects of production systems for the sow farm department in the pork division.
• Manage pig bio-security, breeding/gestation and farrowing, feedings, watering, and environment.
• Perform blood testing, treating/vaccinating, dead animal removal, waste management, transportation.
• Perform timely and accurate production data collection and recordkeeping of pig flow and density.
• Help Human Resources interview and select production staff.
• Responsible for publishing staffing and work schedules; leads staff meetings; and, conducts annual employee appraisals.
• Help manage personnel issues on farm such as payroll data, benefits, and workers compensation.
• Trains and develops staff.
• Model, teach, and reinforce proper pig production practices and general animal husbandry.
• Manage and monitor proper functioning and maintenance of facility, machinery, and equipment including electrical, propane, and water systems; alarm system; power washers; feed bin, augers, water lines, waterers; gates, pits, lagoon; company vehicles/tractors; drives, grounds, and related machinery; tools, production/lab equipment; safety equipment, signs; showers, laundry machines; office equipment (i.e. phone, fax, time clock, computer).
• Oversee repairs and expansions.

• Ensure purchases are at best cost.
• Set finance, accounting, and production goals and meet timely completion of related paperwork.

• Job Requirements: *

• Requires a bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Medicine, Animal Breeding, Animal Husbandry, or equivalent
• Two years of experience in the job offered or two years of experience in the management and operation of a sow farm department; in proper pig production practices and general animal husbandry; in pig bio-security; sow breeding/gestation and farrowing; sow feedings, watering, and sow environment; performing sow blood testing; sow treating/vaccinating; dead animal removal; sow waste management; sow transportation; monitoring proper functioning and maintenance of facility, machinery, and equipment.
