Job Description

North Willamette Valley Habitat for Humanity is a not-for-profit organization located in the city of Mt. Angel, OR and serving the surrounding communities. Founded in 1986, an organization that relies on dedicated volunteers and community supporters.

The Executive Director is the principal organizational leader of Habitat for Humanity. The ED is responsible for envisioning, communicating and leading innovation and new approaches at Habitat to keep the organization viable, growing, and responsive to the needs of the community for affordable housing.

The Executive Director represents Habitat within the local community, promoting the mission of the organization, fundraising and overseeing the performance of Habitat for Humanity in accordance with policies, procedures, and the philosophy of Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors and Habitat for Humanity International. This individual must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a sophisticated approach to operational and staff management, and a passion for Habitat's work. The director should be a forward thinker, developing relationships and programs that move the organization into the future as well as mentoring and developing new leaders, community partners and other critical relationships for the organization.

The ED is responsible for the programmatic and fiscal integrity of the organization in keeping with the direction, policies, and objectives set forth by the Board of Directors and in line with
Habitat for Humanity International.

The ED reports to the Board of Directors and works in partnership with them to ensure that the organization fulfills its mission and creates strategies for future sustainability and success.

Key Responsibilities
Visionary Leadership

● Strong management and leadership to the organization in accordance with the directives, policies, and objectives through continual maintenance of the strategic plan; ensuring that departmental goals are integrated with plan.

● Possess the desire to lead a growing organization, and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a sophisticated approach to operational and staff management, and a passion for Habitat's work.

● Provide clarity around roles and responsibilities of staff, develop consistent and rigorous standards for accountability and metrics of success. Conduct regularly scheduled staff meetings and one-on-one meetings with direct reports to ensure initiatives are adequately communicated internally and affiliate goals are being met.

● Encourage staff and volunteer development by providing ongoing training and educational opportunities. Promote active and broad participation by volunteers in all areas.

● Build a culture that inspires and empowers staff to see their work as more than a task but a critical part of the total program.

● Maintain a close working relationship with the construction teams, Habitat staff and volunteers, including working knowledge of site progress to ensure houses are built within time and budgetary parameters.

● Collaborate with the ReStore Manager to create policies, procedures, and goals for the ReStore and to ensure they are effectively carried out.

● Identify and implement Diversity, Equity & Inclusion practices that are in line with the overall priorities of the organization to be representative of the community it serves while ensuring to attract, hire, retain, promote and maintain a diverse workplace and Board of Directors.

● Assure continuous compliance with all requirements of Habitat International to keep the Affiliate in good standing.

● Coordinate the activities of all staff to achieve the goals established by the Board.

Financial Stewardship

● Implements a Resource Development Strategy for fund development, donor retention and recognition in conjunction with the Development Director.

● Responsible for fund raising activities to ensure that the Affiliate has the resources needed to support its budget and strategic plan initiatives.

● Ensure that accurate, timely financial and performance reports are prepared and distributed to staff, committees and board members.

● Provide leadership for solicitation of individual gifts, including identifying and meeting with major corporate and individual donors.

● Identify and apply for available funding and grant sources as well as support the grant writing process.

● Lead implementation of affiliate policies and procedures adopted by the Board of Directors and in accordance with HFHI requirements.

● Be responsible for maintaining sound financial practices.
● Work with the staff, the finance committee, and the board in preparing a budget; see that the organization operates within budget guidelines.

Qualifications

● Demonstrated experience as an effective leader with managerial skills.
● Ability to inspire, communicate with, and lead a Board of Directors; diverse staff; and committed volunteers.
● Basic understanding of housing construction, budgeting, planning and mortgage banking and low income housing is strongly preferred.
● Bachelor’s degree, Master’s preferred.
● 5 years of experience in the field of housing and community development preferred.
● An outward-facing personality and an experienced public speaker able to actively
● Represent the public brand of the agency locally and regionally.
● Demonstrated experience in obtaining and administering grant funding.
● Familiarity with federal funding requirements under HUD and USDA.
● Demonstrated success in nonprofit fundraising, inclusive of prospecting, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding.
● Knowledge of key funding agencies locally, regionally and nationally.
● Knowledge of Community Land Trusts, Housing Counseling, Financial Coaching, Single Family Repairs and Construction programs preferred.
● Familiarity with consumer retail, preferably within the non-profit environment.
● Proven success at program development and strategic planning.
● Proven finance knowledge and financial management skills.
● Ability to establish collaborative partnerships with affiliated organizations and influencers.
● Experience working with local public officials, strong advocacy skills, and the ability to work with elected officials at the state and national level.
● Ability to successfully manage conflict and adversity.
● Cultural responsiveness and empathy, including listening to and communicating with diverse groups.
● Understanding of site approval and site development processes

Salary
Anticipated Start Date: December 15, 2022
