Early Childhood Center Executive Director

Children’s PLACE is seeking a full-time, West Virginia state qualified Executive Director (ED). The ED provides leadership to the Center and excels at managing daily responsibilities while promoting a caring and inclusive learning environment for children. The ED also maintains strict compliance with West Virginia licensing requirements. Children’s PLACE is seeking someone who is knowledgeable and passionate about early childhood development.

The ED reports directly to the Board of Directors and works closely with the Board of Directors in all aspects of the organization’s management, finances, programming, and organizational development.

Qualifications & Experience:

Title 78-1-9.1.h.4 requires that applicants be 21 years of age and meet at least one of the following educational requirements:

  • Associate degree in early care and education
  • Bachelor’s or associate degree in a related field with 12 credit hours in early childhood development or early childhood education and 90 practicum contact hours in the field of early childhood.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and a total of 2 years of relevant work experience

Or

  • Degree in a business, management or administration field with 12 credit hours in early childhood development or early childhood education and 300 hours of relevant work experience with young children.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Leadership and Management

  • Plan, organize, implement, coordinate, and control the services of the Center, exercising independent judgment and decision-making authority as delegated, including budget, policies, procedure, and staff supervision
  • Support a learning-oriented organizational culture that emphasizes quality experiences for children, collaborative relationships, continuous improvement, and high performance by developing and implementing curriculum and training staff
  • Develop and maintain parental rapport by keeping caregivers informed of their child’s daily experiences and Center activities
  • Foster and cultivate partnerships with other organizations that improves the learning environment for children
  • Maintain a positive and professional relationship with the community
  • Maintain a positive and informative social media presence on behalf of Children’s PLACE
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and retain quality staff
  • Oversee daily management of approximately 15-20 staff members and 99 children
  • Schedule staffing to maintain staff/child ratios in compliance with state licensing
  • Address conflicts and problem solve with parents and staff professionally
  • Maintain and review staff and child portfolios
  • Direct annual staff performance reviews
  • Maintain and implement yearly staff training calendar
  • Plan and lead monthly staff meetings

Operations

  • Understand and execute daily operations in accordance with WV state licensing to ensure compliance
  • Maintain licensing records
  • Attend meetings that are required by the state, Pre-K Licensing and Literacy Program, and any others that are necessary or required
  • Create and implement action plans regarding Licensing, Fire Marshal, Department of Health and Human Services, Health Department, and CACFP
  • Process payroll and maintain vacation and sick time of Center staff
  • Report suspected child abuse or neglect to Child Protective Services
  • Maintain current CDC guidelines and protocols
  • Ensure the facility is maintained to the highest safety, sanitary and building code standards, including the beautification of the grounds/building
  • Adheres to mandatory first aid, abuse and neglect training, and seeks out additional staff training as required
  • Recruit new parents and caregivers, give tours, and enroll prospective children at Children’s PLACE
  • Pass and maintain background certifications for self and staff
  • Understand and administer classroom assessments as required, such as Environmental Rating Scales and other classroom and childhood assessments
  • Understand, implement and train staff with Creative Curriculum
  • Attend monthly board meetings, maintain the agenda and take minutes

Financial:

  • Create and balance the center's budget and oversee parent billing
  • Specific to Cabell County, set up budget, contracts, monthly meetings, IEP/IFSP meetings
  • Oversee Link billing and monitor certificate eligibility and special needs
  • Identify and respond to public and private grant opportunities
  • If awarded, implement grants per notice of award requirements
  • Maintain current grants currently awarded to the Center
  • Solicit donations from the community and implement fundraisers to fund Children’s PLACE initiatives

  • Skill in planning and organizing, able to meet strict deadlines
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to define problems, resolve them quickly, professionally, and appropriately
  • Skilled in efficiently handling conflict and complaints
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changing priorities
  • Computer literate, including proficient with Microsoft Office programs and Google Workspace
