Scientist position working in the Colorado DJ Basin.

JOB OVERVIEW

This position is for a highly motivated, independent and resourceful scientist looking to start on the ground floor of a fast-growing technical consulting firm. While working under our Wildlife Project Manager, this position will provide great experience and exposure to a wide range of natural resources projects, primarily focused in the Oil and Gas Industry. This position will be approximately 50% field-based / 50% office-based overall but will vary week by week based on seasonal fluctuations.

SALARY & BENEFITS

Full-time hourly, $24-28/hr (commensurate with experience & qualifications)

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Apply natural resource management methods and principles to land development projects with a focus on oil and gas related projects;
  • Conduct environmental site visits focusing on wildlife (raptors, migratory birds, other federal and state listed species), vegetation, and wetlands/WOUS;
  • Monitor active nests or other wildlife during active construction projects as needed;
  • Complete survey data forms (Survey123) and map wildlife data (ArcGIS Field Maps);
  • Compile wildlife assessment reports and wildlife protection/mitigation plans;
  • Work closely with team to support other field data collection and permit projects;
  • Maintain an understanding and awareness of current and evolving Oil and Gas regulations, specifically as it pertains to wildlife compliance, surface disturbance, water and well permitting;
  • May include soil and water compliance sampling;
  • Potential opportunity for growth into assistant manager / coordinator role.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Natural Resources, or related field or any combination of education, experience and training equivalent with a minimum of two to four years of natural resources work experience in Oil and Natural Gas or related field;
  • Candidate must have a valid driver’s license;
  • Ability to operate safely in remote areas, rough terrain, and sometimes extreme hot and cold conditions;
  • Knowledge of State and Federal regulations related to but not limited to the following: MBTA, BGEPA, ESA, CWA;
  • Ability to take direction and perform duties with good attitude as part of a team in sometimes difficult field conditions;
  • Ability to work independently, communicate and coordinate with supervisors;
  • Ability and willingness to interact with clients, contractors, agency personnel, and the public;
  • Knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Office Suite programs;
  • Ability to work 40+ hrs. per week, with occasional weekend work;

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Natural Resources, or related field;
  • Oil and Gas experience including Safeland Training;
  • Experience with CO and Mountain West wildlife and vegetation;
  • Clear and concise oral and written communication skills;
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills;
  • Excellent technical writing skills;
  • Experience with GIS, mapmaking and field data collection skills;
  • Experience with using construction drawings and as-builts for onsite surveys.

PHYSICAL & OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to pass background check and drug-screening test;
  • Ability to withstand long periods of walking, standing, and sitting during fieldwork in all weather conditions;
  • Ability to carry/lift 35-40lbs;
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible office hours as well as travel out-of-state periodically and stay overnight near jobsite as project needs dictate;
  • All required safety and other training required for the position will be provided by RPG.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $24.00 - $28.00 per hour
