Well, Handex is currently seeking a highly motivated Environmental Staff Scientist II to partner with our project managers on Contamination Assessments (soil/groundwater sampling and oversight work) supporting our South New Jersey client sites. Position reports to our Windsor NJ location and will be hybrid (office/onsite/home).

What will be my responsibilities and objectives?

  • Performs Phase I & II assessments for sampling and/or monitoring, which can include the following: Groundwater sampling, soil sampling, vapor intrusion air sampling, well installation, soil borings, potable well surveys, aquifer testing, and pilot testing.
  • Prepare reports and analysis.
  • Aid in creating cost proposals, schedule, and coordination of work activities.
  • Maintain and keep abreast of NJDEP regulations, SOP’s, guidelines, and ensure all Handex activities are in compliance.
  • Complete/assist with necessary permitting.
  • Interface and maintain an open line of communication with client and internal staff.

Requirements:

Requirements and skills needed for success:

  • College degree in environmental science, geology or hydrogeology required.
  • 3+ years of experience in Phase I & II contamination assessment and remediation services: sampling, drilling, field assessment, remedial design, systems operations, and maintenance ofequipment and wells and pumps.
  • Comfortable being outside in various weather conditions and working on environmental activities (soil/water/vapor).
  • Experience working with mechanical equipment, pumps and tools.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification and TWIC card preferred.
  • Highly proficient technical writing and documentation skills a must.
  • Knowledge of NJ(DOT&DEP) state, county, local regulations, rules, SOP’s, guidelines, safety, etc.
  • Highly proficient technical skills with a variety of software tools including Microsoft Office Suite applications (Excel, Word, etc.). AutoCad knowledge a plus.
  • Highly organized, detail oriented, self-motivated, and a team player with a can do attitude.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills, both with HCR employees as well as customers and regulators (comfortable in-person, via phone and/or via electronic communications) a must.
  • Willingness to travel to New Jersey client locations.
  • Valid driver’s license in good standing a must.
  • Ability to pass background checks: criminal/physical/drug/alcohol required.
