The Environmental Health & Safety Specialist position will support SUNY Poly's on-campus operations with responsibilities related to employees, students, and visitors on campus, including compliance monitoring, PPE inventory management, distribution of materials, review of daily screenings, promoting COVID safe behaviors around campus - social distancing, mask wearing, seat check-in, contact tracing, employee/student communications, event review, reporting, and related duties.

The EHS Specialist will provide testing program assistance, contact tracing support to HR and Wellness offices where appropriate and as needed, work with EHS, HR, Wellness, Administration, Res Life, Student Life, ITS, Facilities, Clubs, Academic offices, and other offices in regard to COVID related issues (e.g. guidance, review, approvals, etc...), provide outreach to campus community - posting signage, direct interactions, working with supervisors, managers, groups, clubs, classes, etc... to improve and enhance compliance with COVID restrictions and requirements, assist in coordination of on-campus Quarantine and Isolation process, provide guidance based on policies, procedures, requirements, laws, recommendations, and best practices of SUNY, SUNY Poly, CDC, NYSDOH, local departments of health, and other local, state, and federal agencies as they relate to COVID operations.

The EHS Specialist will assist the EHS Director (and related offices) with plan development, site safety surveys, safety equipment upkeep/maintenance, inventory, purchases, meetings, interaction with faculty, staff, students, computer work, spreadsheets, data processing. Some travel may be necessary between Albany and Utica campuses or other locations. Other reasonable duties as assigned.


Job Requirements:


Minimum Requirements:

Associate degree from college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization plus 2 years related job experience or Bachelor's degree from college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization plus 1 year related job experience.

Applicants must possess a valid New York State driver's license and have the ability to operate a motor vehicle.

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and walk the campus grounds and facilities to observe and document any issues of concern. Own a cell phone for use in communication - email, shared documents, telephone, text. Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism. Ability to interact in an empathetic and non-judgmental manner with culturally diverse populations. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Ability to use sound judgement in responding to issues and concerns. Excellent time management skills (organization, prioritization, multitasking). Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritizing work and balancing multiple projects concurrently. Ability to adapt to rapidly changing scenarios and guidelines. Ability to work with a high degree of professionalism with limited direction.

Preferred Qualifications:

Public health background preferred with recent COVID / pandemic responsibilities, contact tracing certification (completed Johns Hopkins Coursera Contact Tracing training course or equivalent). Computer skills - Google/MS Office suite - data entry into electronic tracking systems, speaking, reading, writing clearly and concisely in English.
