Role Summary:
This person will report directly to the Process Engineering Manager, with a dotted line to the Environmental, Health, and Safety Manager and will be responsible for managing the environmental engineering needs for Novonix Anode Material’s production plants. In the role of Environmental Engineer, you will be joining a world-class engineering team that is delivering innovative solutions to tough problems. This role is located in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and requires onsite support of 2 manufacturing locations in the Chattanooga Tennessee metropolitan area. This position offers a hybrid working environment where you can work remotely up to 40% of the time. The working hours are Monday through Friday, day shift.

Responsibilities include:

  • Testing, monitoring and required reporting of air/gas emissions from the various production processes
  • Waste, ground, and runoff water monitoring and reporting, as required
  • Management and documentation of onsite refrigerants
  • Monitoring and documentation of backup power combustion emissions
  • Monitoring and reporting as required for solid waste
  • Managing existing environmental permits
  • Primary lead on applying for new environmental operating permits of all types
  • Primary point of contact for regulatory agencies for the business
  • Supporting Project Management, Engineering, and Development groups with emissions compliance needs through the entire phase of manufacturing rollout: (1) process development, (2) facility/process construction, and (3) process operation
  • Compiling and executing reaction plans to environmental issues: near misses, spills, etc.
  • Vison to plan and execute the long-term compliance needs and strategy for the business
  • Supporting business development with regards to environmental engineering, specifically compiling environmental projections for loan applications, grant requests, etc.

You Have:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as an Environmental Engineer
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in the primary role of reporting/regulatory compliance
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Engineering or Environmental Sciences from an ABET accredited school/university/college
  • Experience with both maintaining existing, as well as applying for new environmental operating permits
  • Experience with requirements and reporting for compressed gas refrigerants
  • Experience managing a regulatory and compliance budget

Extra awesome if you have:

  • 10+ years of Industry experience and regulatory compliance
  • Experience with environmental ISO certification
  • Familiarity/experience with state of Tennessee reporting/permitting requirements
  • Familiarity/experience with the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Air Pollution Control Bureau
  • Experience with Root Cause-Corrective Action/8D problem solving
  • A background in heavy industry: o Chemical o Pulp & paper o Steel o Petrochemical
  • Experience with crushing, grinding, and thermal treating processes and related environmental management
  • A Six Sigma belt
  • A Master’s degree in business or environmental engineering or environmental science
  • Knowledge of environmental modeling
  • The desire to move into management/leadership
