Baker Engineering and Risk Consultants, Inc. (BakerRisk®) is seeking an entry level structural engineer to assist project managers in their Los Angeles (El Segundo) office with the analysis and design of structures to resist the effects of explosions.

BakerRisk is a technology leader in assessing the risks associated with explosions, fires, and toxic material releases. BakerRisk uses advanced methodologies to predict consequences and design mitigation measures, providing services to industries and government organizations around the world.

Responsibilities

• Support engineering staff in the areas of blast resistant structural design and explosive effects, primarily for U.S. government and oil/gas industrial clients
• Perform calculations for design and analysis of structural components subjected to blast effects
• Visit industrial sites to survey buildings and obtain data for input into site models
• Process test data on propagation of airblast and response of structures to blast and impact loads
• Learn engineering software to calculate blast loads and structural response to blast loads
• Learn to apply design manuals for protective construction
• Get involved in business development activities

Qualifications: Required

• B.S. in civil/structural or mechanical engineering
• Minimum 3.0 GPA
• Understanding of fundamentals of structural mechanics, static analytical methods, solid mechanics, material behavior
• Understanding of structural design using steel and reinforced concrete
• Familiarity with conventional design codes for steel and concrete design
• Attention to detail and accuracy
• U.S. Citizenship REQUIRED

Qualifications: Preferred

• 
  M.S. in civil/structural or mechanical engineering, or engineering mechanics
• 1-2 years of experience in engineering practice
• Understanding of structural dynamics, material plasticity, nonlinear analysis, statistics
• Interest in data processing, software testing and development, dynamic testing
• Competence in oral and written communication skills
• Matlab, Python, C++, or C# programming skills
• Familiarity with finite element analysis software
