Position Description

Carey Sales & Services, Inc.

The technician assists upper level installation crews with delivery and setting in place of equipment, with the intention that the Entry Level Technician will learn the skills of the trade by hands on experience in the field. An Entry Level Technician is also responsible for assisting with any projects or improvements the company makes to the business’s premises, as well as assisting with deliveries and staging in the warehouse, and assisting the Senior Metal Shop technicians with metal fabrication projects. The technician must maintain an understanding of current technology as related to job responsibilities.

Essential Functions

  • Assist with any moving, remodeling or related tasks in the office and showroom as needed.
  • Perform general maintenance at Carey Sales business location including but not limited to cleaning, changing light bulbs, breaking down boxes, depositing trash in the dumpster, and painting.
  • Assist Metal shop technicians in the fabrication of various projects for Carey Sales and Customers. Using various machines and supplemental tools necessary to complete the fabrication of the project.
  • Occasionally perform duties normally performed by Warehouse Associates such as packing outgoing shipments, receiving and unloading incoming shipments, and organizing merchandise in the warehouse as directed.
  • Assists Upper level and Senior Level installers in the field. The Entry Level technician must be able to participate the in installations, both physically and visually to understand and learn the required skill sets to service various kitchen equipment, including but not limited to refrigeration connections, gas connections, and advanced installation.
  • Must be able to read printed manufactures directions and specifications in the field, in order to ensure proper installation and configuration of equipment.
  • Maintains good housekeeping of work area.
  • Observes all safety rules and regulations. Must act safely and be responsible for the safety of others around work area.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

This position operates in an environment that may contain dust, noise, oils, greases, grinding debris, compressed air, metal shavings, propane and solvents.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to read printed material, write with paper and pen, and perform basic math to accurately complete all documentation. they must also be able to communicate freely with customers and coworkers in person, over the phone, and through use of electronic devices. The person must be able to drive any of the vehicles in the company's current fleet. This job also requires the use of machines and hand tools necessary for tool and die fabrication, including lathe, milling machining, band saw, jig saw, drill press, filer, grinders, arc welder, brazing unit and other standard tools. This position requires heavy lifting for installation and maintenance of large Commercial Kitchen/Food Service Equipment. Essential to the position is the ability to stand for long periods of time, lie on the ground face up and face down, get up unassisted from a prostrate position on the ground, kneel, crawl, and bend.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Standard days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Overtime is expected to occur as necessary for the business.

Travel

No travel is expected for this position.

Required Education and Experience

  • Basic computer literacy education, including windows, Microsoft Office and spreadsheet applications.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Vocational classes related to this job.
  • Two years’ experience in this field working with mechanical systems.
  • An understanding of other skilled trades such as welding, plumbing and electrical
  • Experience working with commercial food service equipment.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

None required for this position.

Required Automotive Authorization, Record, and Insurance.

This position requires the technician to Drive Carey Sales and Services company vehicles as well as their own personal vehicles as needed. Thus, Carey Sales requires a violation-free driving record, and current Driver’s License, and Full insurance coverage to meet the stated requirements per the Employee handbook. All license and personal auto insurance fees are the responsibility of the individual, and the business does not reimburse for these costs.
