The Boeing Company is looking for an Entry Level Data Engineer to join our team in Berkeley, MO. The Data Engineer (DE) role is a specialization within the wind tunnel aerodynamic test engineering skill code. Specifically the DE role, works in the St. Louis Aero Test capability within Boeing Test and Evaluation (BT&E) as part of the wind tunnel test engineering team. The Aero Test capability supports wind tunnel tests for all Boeing divisions, including Boeing Commercial Aircraft (BCA) and Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) programs at Boeing-owned wind tunnels and those external to the company.

This DE will fill a highly technical role that supports the development and verification of test data processing methods needed to make the wind tunnel data useful to the Boeing program business partner. A DE is assigned to each wind tunnel test effort. They will collaborate with the lead test engineer, operations team, and program partners to ensure the wind tunnel test produces the highest quality data that meets the requirements of the business partner.

The DE must be knowledgeable in aerodynamics and propulsion concepts and applications, including test techniques and basic wind tunnel facility operation. In addition, the DE must have strong computer programming skills as well as troubleshooting. The DE should possess strong communication skills and the ability to work well with others. A large portion of wind tunnel testing falls in the research and development arena, which requires a generous measure of flexibility and a quick understanding and response capability.

The St. Louis Aero Test organization has oversight of the Boeing Polysonic Wind Tunnel (PSWT), but supports testing at wind tunnel facilities throughout the world. The DE will primarily support PSWT; however, the DE may be called upon to support remote test facilities, as required. Travel could be required. Some individual tests can last in excess of 30 days; however, this role is expected to travel less than 25% of the year. Travel can be initiated with little or no notice. DE’s support multiple-shift work schedules depending on test and facility schedules.

BDS is the primary business partner supported by the team, but, as needed, the team supports all business units in the company.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develops and documents standardized test methods and processes to ensure repeatability and productivity

  • Applies lessons learned to the improvement of test data acquisition and processing systems, equipment and algorithms

  • Reviews and generates calibration procedures and software

  • Analyzes, processes, and formats data to customer requirements

  • Works with data quality engineer to troubleshoot and resolve test data anomalies

  • Performs functions as required to ensure data validity

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skill/Experience):

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering, computer science, mathematics, or physics by Aug 2023

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering
  • Experience in computer programming
  • Have or have held an active U.S. Security Clearance in the past 24 months
  • The highest level U.S. security clearance have or have held in the past 24 months

Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) or an equivalent combination of
technical education and experience. In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard
