TITLE: ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNER (ELL) TEACHER

DEPARTMENT: Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate with Structured English Immersion K-12, or English as a Second Language K-12, or Bilingual K-12 endorsement.
  • Bachelor’s Degree from accredited college or university.
  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona IVP fingerprint clearance card.

JOB GOAL:

The English Language Learner teacher will support english learners as they grow their ability to effectively access information in the school setting independently.


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following tasks are essential for this position. This list is not inclusive of all responsibilities. Individuals may not perform all of these tasks, or may perform similar related tasks not listed here.

  • Complies with all HIPAA and FERPA related confidentiality requirements.
  • Develops positive relations with students, parents, school staff and the public.
  • Works with the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment, to maintain best practices for EL programming.
  • Provides targeted instruction based on the ELP and AZ state standards.
  • Attends professional learning communities.
  • Manages student behavior through the effective use of classroom management techniques.
  • Supports teachers in their use of curricular resources including digital resources.
  • Administers the AZELLA assessment.
  • Creates, organizes, and retains appropriate lesson plans.
  • Provides professional development to teachers who provide integrated SEI instruction.
  • Organizes paperwork and ensures proper documentation for EL programing is taking place.
  • Performs other related duties as directed by the Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:

Knowledge of:

  • District policies, operations and organization.
  • Interpersonal skills including tact, courtesy and diplomacy.
  • Communication (telephone, email, etc.) etiquette.
  • Educational theories and practices.
  • Structured English Immersion (SEI) theories and practices.
  • Federal and state laws, rules and regulations governing education.
  • Knowledge of FERPA and HIPAA.
  • Arizona College and Career Readiness Standards.
  • Arizona’s English Language Proficiency Standards.
  • District curricula, assessment, and instructional programs.
  • Promoting positive public relations.
  • Technology in the educational context.

Skill and Ability to:

  • Work cooperatively with others.
  • Demonstrate effective instructional skills.
  • Demonstrate effective classroom management techniques.
  • Utilize engaging and encouraging communication skills while interacting with supervisors, staff, students, etc. to exchange information.
  • Seek innovative ways to support best student learning.
  • Read, analyze, and interpret written documents including education research.
  • Analyze and organize student achievement data.
  • Communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Flexibly and creatively problem solve.
  • Create effective relationships with district staff, vendors and the community.
  • Provide excellent customer service.

REPORTS TO: Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment


EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment in accordance with the provisions of Governing Board policy in evaluation of certified personnel.


TERMS OF

EMPLOYMENT: 10 Months


SALARY:
Salary for the position is set according to the Certified Salary Schedule determined by the Governing Board.
