The UW Bothell Office of Connected Learning has an outstanding opportunity for a Community-Engaged Learning Program Manager.

The Office of Connected Learning (OCL), a cross-campus unit within the division of Academic Affairs, is committed to access and success for all students by supporting a range of applied experiences that further cross-disciplinary learning, career connections, and contributions to a more just and equitable community on and off campus. The OCL includes Community-Engaged Learning and Research (CELR), the Collaboratory, Global Initiatives, Digital Scholars, and Research and Creative Projects.

Reporting to the Director of Connected Learning, the Program Manager for Community-Engaged Learning leads the day-to-day implementation of community-engaged courses and has significant responsibility for building external community partner and campus relationships. The range of tasks in this position includes direct advising with students enrolled in community-engaged courses, outreach to community-based partner organizations, work with faculty to support and develop community-engaged teaching in their classrooms, and management of online systems and web content to enable and support community-engaged learning at the University of Washington Bothell.

The ideal candidate for this position would possess a deep commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice, and particularly to utilizing anti-racist practices to foster long-term partnerships.

PROGRAM MANAGEMENT:
  • Manage and maintain processes of community-engaged learning courses involving communication and coordination between faculty, community partners and students.

  • Facilitate and coordinate community-engaged learning class orientations at the beginning of each quarter; provide presentation content, logistical support for community partners to attend in person and remote.

  • Manage community-engaged learning databases, spreadsheets, and reports. Improve systems and processes for efficiency and sustainability.

  • Oversee the development of risk management policies and processes. Work with the Office of Connected Learning Program Coordinator to ensure student and partner DocuSign documents are completed.

  • Support management and implementation of Office of Connected Learning student cohort programs that embed community-engaged learning summer projects (e.g., Digital Scholars).

  • Consistently review community-engaged learning and research activities through an anti-racism framework and make necessary adjustments.


  • COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS:
  • Sustain knowledge of and engagement with the range of existing community-engaged learning partnerships, while further developing an equity-centered portfolio of partners.

  • Communicate and work with existing community partnerships to match and support community-engaged learning opportunities and communicate about new opportunities for collaboration with Connected Learning programs.

  • In partnership with Community-Engaged Research Program Manager, engage in community partner networking and promote partner opportunities for Office of Connected Learning; conduct site visits, attend local community meetings, participate in and support partner field trips and partner events.

  • Develop processes and modalities to show appreciation to community partners.

  • Create communication feedback loops between faculty, staff, students, and community partners for program improvement, student evaluation, and Office of Connected Learning assessment.

  • Cultivate and sustain campus relationships to ensure sustainability and success of campus community-engaged learning.


  • STUDENT SUPPORT:
  • Manage the logistics of student community-engaged learning registration through database, and placement of students in community partner organizations.

  • Advise students on selecting a community organization and in reflecting upon their experience.

  • Respond to questions and concerns from students about community-engaged learning assignments and placements with organizations.

  • Lead small community building and reflection events for community-engaged learning and broader connected learning students.

  • Work with Connected Learning Advisor to support students pursuing community-engaged learning awards and scholarships.


  • FACULTY SUPPORT:
  • Provide one-on-one faculty consultation on syllabus design, course assignments, partnership opportunities, risk management, and community-engaged learning course designation process.

  • Facilitate communication between faculty and partners on student performance, course presentations, and site visits, etc.

  • Guide faculty towards community-engaged learning resources on website, course design, articles, etc.

  • Collaborate with the Director of Connected Learning and Office of Student Academic Success’ Director of Learning and Teaching on faculty development programs for faculty teaching community-engaged learning courses.


  • COMMUNICATION:
  • Manage content on the Community-Engaged Learning and Research website in collaboration with the Office of Connected Learning Communications Manager.

  • Oversee production and distribution of quarterly community partner newsletter.

  • Input community-engaged learning opportunities into the Connected Learning student database.

  • Support the development of communication materials for students, faculty, staff, and community partners to communicate about community-engaged learning opportunities.

  • In partnership with the Office of Connected Learning team, build communication structures with Academic Advisors and student peer advisors.

  • Ensure visibility of Office of Connected Learning outside the office via relationship building, collaboration, and general presence remotely and on campus at university events and in classes.


  • SUPERVISION:
  • Supervise two student assistants. Facilitate coaching and professional and leadership development opportunities that support student career discernment.


  • CONTINUED KNOWLEDGE & UNIVERSITY ENGAGEMENT:

  • Maintain knowledge in the field of community-engaged learning and research, especially where academics in higher education are connected; attend seminars, conferences, professional development opportunities.

  • Actively participate in Office of Connected Learning meetings, planning sessions & retreats, and serve and participate on university committees as assigned or designated.


  • MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Business Administration, Social Sciences, American Ethnic Studies, Science and Technology, Health Studies, Interdisciplinary Arts, or a related field.

  • Minimum two years' experience in education, program coordination, administration, project management, community engagement or outreach, service-learning, student affairs, or related field.


  • ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to communicate, build, and maintain collaborative relationships with students, community partners, faculty, and staff.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with partners who include historically marginalized communities.

  • Knowledge and understanding of issues related to racism and other systems of oppression.

  • Strong project management and organizational skills.

  • Ability to take initiative in a team-based environment while simultaneously following through on independent projects.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and appropriately (through written word and public speaking) with varied stakeholders.

  • Demonstrate ability to use basic functions of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook), and web-based forms.


  • Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

    DESIRED REQUIREMENTS:
  • Master’s degree in Education or a related field.

  • Professional experience managing volunteers or interns in a university/college setting, non-profit, government organization, or corporation.

  • Experience working with college students, community-based organizations, or community engaged learning teaching.

  • Established community relationships and network in the Puget Sound Region.

  • A hybrid model of in-person and telework is common within the Office of Connected Learning.

  • Ability and willingness to travel, primarily in the King and Snohomish County region, and occasionally statewide.

  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
