Energy Democracy Organizing Manager (Contractor) Job at EcoWomanist Institute

EcoWomanist Institute Atlanta, GA

About EcoWomanist Institute (EWI)

Agency Overview
The mission of the EcoWomanist Institute (EWI) is to increase the inclusion, ecological awareness, and environmental leadership of African American women within the eco-spirituality and ecojustice narratives.

Program Overview
In the tradition of Ecowomanism, the Power in Small Places Initiative is founded upon a “whole- person” approach to enrich the knowledge of Black women in energy democracy and civic engagement as a right of connectedness for Black women to where they live, work, and play daily.

Purpose
One of the project’s primary objectives is that Black women reclaim ownership of their rights to live in and on land that they deem safe and sacred. In the Black Belt region of the South, Black women disproportionately carry excessive energy burdens and are not included in the decision-making process within the (energy) political processes. Pollutants in the air, soil, and water created by fossil fuel energy production have been connected to premature death, increased heart attacks, respiratory issues, stroke, and other chronic and acute disorders that disproportionately impact the Black Belt region communities.

EWI works towards an action-oriented approach to solutions.

EWI’s community engagement operation will serve as a sharing opportunity. Community members will be offered information they can use during each engagement. Their shared stories of community gaps and strengths will inform future areas of concentration. The initiative will focus on voting and energy knowledge as forms of self-care to reduce anxiety driven by uncertainty and increase their worldview of personal power.
