Position Summary:

The Emergency Services (ESS) Program Assistant is responsible for providing a continuum of care for shelter guests assigned to her during their residency at the Center for Women and Children. This includes assisting with intakes, providing supervision and support, and assisting the case managers with various program elements during afternoon, evening and weekend hours.

Qualifications:


To perform the essential functions of this position successfully, an individual must demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Possess a sincere love of Christ and maintain a Christian walk that is evident of that love. Individual must be willing to sign and adhere to the WM Statement of Faith.
  • Be dependable – consistently at work and on time, report to all scheduled shifts, follow instructions, respond to management direction and solicit feedback to improve personal performance, and complete tasks in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Be flexible and able to work with women experiencing homelessness from various backgrounds and at different skill levels.
  • Willingness to pursue relevant certifications.
  • Be proficient with basic computer functions and willing to learn the online database system used to manage guest information.
  • Possess a valid Indiana driver’s license and be able to drive under the company insurance policy.

1. The Program Assistant will mediate disputes and give counsel and guidance to guests when needed using scripture as the basis for all discussions. She will record the incidents and communicate information promptly to the Case Managers and Program Director.

2. The Program Assistant will be responsible for managing linens and getting beds ready for new intakes.

3. The Program Assistant will work with the team to manage and distribute donations to guests as needed.

4. The Program Assistant will effectively and accurately navigate the database system to manage guest data in a timely manner.

5. The Program Assistant will work with Case Managers and the Program Director to plan, facilitate and supervise activities including transportation to appointments.

6. The Program Assistant will participate in weekly ESS Team meetings and CWC staff meetings.

7. The Program Assistant will perform other administrative or programmatic tasks as assigned by the Program Director.


Work Environment:

The ESS Program Assistant must be able to carry out the required job duties in a fast-paced Christ Centered environment that is grace-based, trauma informed, and strengths focused.


Physical Demands:

To perform the essential job functions of the ESS Program Assistant position, a candidate must be capable of performing many physical functions including:


1. Walking short distances with the ability to ascend and descend ten flights of stairs.

2. Physical dexterity sufficient to type and operate standard office equipment.

3. Physical ability to perform normal office functions with the endurance to remain standing for long periods of time.

4. Strength to lift office supplies and equipment up to 20 pounds.

The ESS Program Assistant must be able to:

1. Read, write and interpret written documents

2. Communicate effectively with guests, co-workers, community partners, and volunteers


Required Education and Experience:

  • HS Diploma or the educational equivalent
  • Experience working with women and children who may have experienced substance abuse, mental health concerns, trauma, domestic violence or homelessness

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Experience with mentoring and discipleship of women who have experienced trauma and/or homelessness

Background Investigation and Drug Testing:

  • After a “conditional offer of employment” is made, the individual must pass a background investigation which includes a consumer credit investigative report.
  • Wheeler Mission Ministries has a mandatory drug testing policy for all new employees. The successful applicant must submit to and pass a drug and/or alcohol test. This drug and/or alcohol testing may occur any time after the applicant receives a conditional offer of employment. All employees must sign and adhere to WM Drugs and Alcohol policy and remain free from addiction to drugs or alcohol.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

The ESS Program Assistant may be responsible for providing task supervision of interns and volunteers.


Expected Hours of Work:

This full-time position is typically staffed throughout the week with some evening and weekend hours required. Schedules are assigned at the discretion of the Director or Program Director and may change at any time with or without advance notice.


Travel:

Local travel between Wheeler Mission locations.
