Job Title: Electrical Specialist

Location: Baton Rouge, LA/St Gabriel

Job Description

Perform all maintenance activities associated with electrical power distribution at client site located in the St. Gabriel area. Troubleshoot and resolve electrical equipment failures and restore to operating condition. Assist with scoping and execution of small capital projects. Ensure installed equipment meets site standards and perform documentation updates. Drive equipment reliability initiatives. Manage the preventive maintenance work order process. Expand and improve department SOPs. Serve as a technical resource to the department’s electrical trade personnel. Seek out ways to improve/expand the capabilities of the electrical personnel onsite.

Responsibilities

• Electrical Safety Support
  • Serve as Electrical Safety Inspector and participate individually or as a team member to promote safety
  • Identify and seek ways to improve the technical expertise of the onsite electrical personnel
  • Lead MOC field safety reviews (PSSRs)
  • Ensure the site is compliant with NFPA 70E and NEC
  • Lead field inspection of hazardous/classified locations (HAZLOC)
• Reliability Support
  • Assess preventative maintenance strategies, identify gaps, and propose/document new strategies
  • Develop/update SOPs where needed
  • Accountable for the safe and efficient installation, maintenance, and improvement of electrical systems and associated equipment for the St. Gabriel site
  • Ensure PM forms are properly completed and documented in SAP and work orders are closed
  • Help generate KPIs for electrical activities/equipment.
  • Interact with production unit personnel and provide knowledge of electrical distribution systems
  • Serve as Quality Assurance / Quality Control for new installs and existing repairs
  • Understanding of electrical testing practices
• Turnaround Support
  • Serve as coordinator for all PM & Turnaround activities requiring outages
  • Lead electrical distribution switching for maintenance and project activities
• Daily Maintenance Support
  • Understand and interpret electrical schematics, drawings, and P&IDs
  • Assess preventative maintenance strategies, identify gaps, and propose/document new strategies
  • Maintain and update technical information, drawings, calibrations, and maintenance records
  • Provide technical assistance to support electrical activities at the St. Gabriel site
  • Direct efforts for solving problems that may be operational rather than the result of electrical failure
  • Participate regularly in emergency callouts and overtime in units of the plant. May be responsible for off-hours duty
• Project Support
  • Serve as a project liaison between Maintenance and CPG to ensure new installations are constructible and maintainable
  • Help improve project process with good standard/detail support and monitor new electrical installations
  • Understand basic maintenance processes & systems used to plan, schedule, and execute work
  • Proactively seek to improve and implement electrical system additions to solve operational problems, improve plant reliability, and reduce operating cost
  • Monitor new electrical installations for CPG

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Knowledge of RCRA state and federal regulations

General knowledge of chemical waste hazard classifications and safe handling techniques

Knowledge of general instrumentation and electrical troubleshooting

Understand and use engineering documentation systems such as P&IDs, one-lines, ladder diagrams, C-7s, electrical schematics

Understand PSM and Mechanical Integrity requirements and guidelines (NFPA, IEC, NETA, etc. Standards)

Able to adapt to changing technology and identify new applications

Able to communicate effectively at various organizational and departmental levels

Technical knowledge in electrical power systems and all associated equipment

Technical knowledge of electrical distribution systems up to 15KV

Understand basic maintenance processes & systems used to plan, schedule, and execute work

Knowledge of SAP PM module

Able to understand and apply site MOC (C-7) process

Able to use problem-solving techniques

Requirements

Minimum 5 years of direct experience in the following areas:

• Troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of electrical power system and associated equipment
• Troubleshooting, installation, maintenance, and repair of 15kV to 120VAC equipment such as switchgear, transformers, VFDs, diesel generators, UPS, etc
• Troubleshooting, installation, maintenance, and repair of equipment/systems supporting the distribution or utilization of electric energy (up to 15 KV)
• Experience installing or repairing a variety of electrical equipment, such as transformers, switches, switchgear, controllers, circuit breakers, power panels, motors, conduit/raceways, or other distribution equipment

2 years of formal Electrical training/instruction (Vo-Tech, ABC programs) preferred

The ideal candidate must possess or have the following:

• Stable work history
• Be legally eligible to work in the US. Sponsorship is not available
• Able to pass a drug and alcohol screening
• Able to comply with customer site requirements for access/entry

Physical Requirements

• See, Respond, and Report to dangerous situations
• Comfortable with heights and able to climb stairs/ladders
• Operating and Driving a vehicle for extended periods on possible rough terrain
• Bending, Walking, Climbing, Kneeling, Sitting, and Standing for extended periods
• Ability to work in inclement weather and/or extreme weather-related conditions
• Required to wear PPE/Safety gear at specific times
