Northern Star (Pogo) LLC has a challenging and rewarding opportunity for an Electrical & Instrumentation Supervisor at our world-class Pogo operation in Alaska on a rotational camp schedule.

What's the role?

The Electrical & Instrumentation Supervisor reports to the Maintenance Superintendent, and the primary role is supervising E&I Crew members and all electrical and instrumentation maintenance activities performed for the Pogo mine site. Monitor site wide electrical and instrumentation work, including new installations, to ensure work is safe, meets operational needs, and complies with applicable standards.

Duties include:

  • Supervise crew activities during shifts to ensure safe and efficient accomplishment of tasks. Conduct performance evaluations, recommend promotions and discipline, and facilitate corrective action for employees.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain training programs for the department that ensure crew members receive new hire and continuing education. Identify subject areas that need improvement on individual and collective basis.
  • Works closely with planner to provide scheduling information, maintain work orders and backlog, develop short and long term maintenance objectives, and assess weekly key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Assist crew by investigating electrical and instrumentation problems, recommending solutions, providing assistance in the selection of equipment, and providing technical direction and advice.
  • Analyze and diagnose electrical, instrumentation, and operational problems. Recommend solutions and assist with implementation.
  • Perform field visits to monitor work activities for quality, safety, and completeness.
  • Participate in preparation of various plant shutdown schedules.
  • Improve and reduce electrical and instrumentation maintenance costs through improved maintenance and operation practices.
  • Provide input into budget preparation and control costs by monitoring and explaining variances.

The specifics:

  • Two years college coursework in a related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Minimum five to ten years progressively responsible relevant work experience, three of these years in a supervisory capacity.
  • Prefer experience in mining industry working with equipment management and preventive maintenance programs, and instrumentation.
  • Computer literacy Microsoft Office, etc.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Knowledge of NEC regulations and code.
  • Knowledge of electrical and instrumentation specifics, procedures, and processes.
  • Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices.
  • Awareness of the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) Act & Regulations.
  • Be able to pass a background check and post offer physical.

The Details:

Working a rotational schedule, up to 12 hours a day or more at a remote campsite.

Extreme conditions, including but not limited to extreme and changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area.

Employees are required to stay on site at the company provided camp during the work rotation. Camp facilities provide dining service, games room, exercise & weight room, sauna, and accommodation rooms. Dormitory rooms have a land line phone, great Wi-Fi & cable TV. Cell service is available through Wi-Fi. The Company provides a bus service to and from Fairbanks, Delta Junction and Tok, Alaska.
