Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of EHS programs, aligned with Missouri Cobalt’s standards.
  • Responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring safety and environmental programs, processes, and policies to safeguard employees and ensure compliance with government regulations.
  • Manages the development and execution of strategic EHS plans for the Mining site.
  • Perform internal safety audits to determine compliance with MSHA, EPA, NIOSH, ISO 14001, 45001 and Missouri Cobalt regulations.
  • Prepare reports based on audit findings that communicate deficiencies and corrective actions. Support external audits.
  • Evaluate and execute training needs of the site to enable effective operation of the established safety and environmental systems.
  • Establish and recommend changes guided by EHS policies, procedures and business plans and participates in establishing and administering EHS functional projects.
  • Lead EHS planning at the facility, including goal setting, prioritizing facility safety and compliance needs, capital and operating expenses related to EHS, and establishing adequate systems for tracking results and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure a proper plant compliance plan exists to ensure awareness of and in good standing with regulatory and Missouri Cobalt’s requirements.
  • Maintain records, data and other EHS related information necessary to satisfy all legal and company requirements.
  • Provide training (if applicable) and information to all employees as needed to satisfy regulatory EHS requirements.
  • Facilitate the development and annual review of EHS policies/procedures and initiatives to foster and maintain a strong safety culture.
  • Perform and/or coordinate plant monitoring activities (noise, chemicals, etc.) necessary to ensure compliance with regulatory and company EHS requirements.
  • Coordinate and support environmental compliance activities, such as emissions control, waste disposal, etc.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Proficient computer-based skills including database, spreadsheet, word processing and presentations
  • Experience implementing critical safe work programs and practices
  • Proficiency in applicable EHS codes, standards, regulations, etc.
  • Experience interacting with EHS related regulatory agencies
  • Must be capable of managing multiple projects, ensure successful completion of business objectives and meet project deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional listening, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Attentive to detail
  • Proficient understanding of the compliance and regulations set forth throughout MSHA, EPA, NIOSH, ISO 14001, 45001

Physical:

  • Must be able to sit, walk and stand intermittently for 8 or more hours a day
  • Must be able to work off shift, holidays, and overtime, as necessary or needed per Company or incident happenstance
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.

Education and Experience:

  • Degree in EHS, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Occupational Safety, or related field.
  • Relevant certifications preferred: (MSHA Certified Instructor, Certified Safety Professional, Industrial Hygienist, Hazardous Materials Manager, etc.)
  • At least 3+ years of EHS Management or related experience

Safety:

  • Comply with all MSHA standards as outlined in the Code of Federal Regulations
  • Comply with all company safety standards and policies
  • Correct any safety hazards found that can be immediately corrected
  • Report any unsafe conditions that can’t be immediately corrected
  • Report all accidents, regardless of the severity
  • Report to work in a ready state fit for duty
  • Immediately stop work if the work is not safe or cannot be performed in a safe way
  • Participate in daily pre-shift safety discussions
  • Participate in safety meetings
  • Keep work areas neat and orderly
  • Use all personal protective equipment when required
