Summary

The role of this position is processing of battery data, creation and implementation of algorithms, metrics, and visualization in a variety of formats toward analytics of descriptive, exploratory, predictive, and prescriptive goals using cell level, pack level and vehicle level data. Responsibilities will encompass leading role in analyzing, mining, processing, and tracking the increasing amount of battery test data generated from cell, battery, vehicle and fleet testing during the course of product development, testing, and validation. The development of battery data analytics and predictive system engineering tools and application of these tools for design and development of EV battery systems. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty listed under Job Responsibilities satisfactorily.

Essential Duties

  • Development of battery data analytics and predictive system engineering technologies, as well as their application in the design and development of EV battery systems
  • Analyzing, interpreting, and tracking the increasing amount of battery test data generated throughout product development, testing, and validation
  • Data analysis utilizing statistical approaches, database implementation and maintenance, data collection from primary and secondary sources, finding, analyzing, and interpreting trends
  • Work on multiple programs and deal with a wide spectrum of data, including cell, pack, module, vehicle, data
  • Create and implement battery data analytics and predictive system tools (MATLab) for battery system performance prediction and verification
  • Compare and validate battery life and performance models by analyzing battery and vehicle usage data from test vehicles
  • Encourage the creation of acceptable battery usage history statistics
  • Examine important battery performance across the product lifecycle, including power and energy performance, battery life, and safety performance
  • Oversee data analysis and interpretation efforts relating to battery field performance in order to lead requirements development and product improvements
  • Analyze and retrieve data as well as prepare lab test reports, parametric test reports and review test reports with the lead engineer
  • Monitor test piece and data for the duration of the test as well as report any anomalies to the test requester
  • Monitor the integrity of the cycler and chamber data, verify test parts and test data after test completion
  • Document and explain issue findings to the assigned engineer in a friendly, understandable manner as well as assist engineers in troubleshooting to resolve issues
  • Report investigation/test/containment results in a clear, concise, and timely manner to the appropriate LG Energy Solution Staff and/or customer
  • Write formal reports for tests conducted using MS Word showing all test results and data
  • Report any testing anomalies
  • Interface with personnel in various engineering activities
  • Review results of supplier conducted analysis, development, and validation plans and sign-off once successfully completed


Qualifications

  • BS Engineering, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science with minimum 1 year of work experience
  • 1 year academic or industrial experience in mathematical modeling and data analysis/processing/mining
  • Knowledge of design of experiments, parameter fitting, optimization, and data regression
  • Good understanding of Li-ion cell electrochemistry, cell, module, battery life models and battery life behavior
  • Highly analytical and experienced in data analysis/processing, and have some background in electric vehicles
  • Working experience with product development cycles and lab equipment (Cycler, Chamber, Chiller etc.)
  • Strong communication skills and ability to discuss technical issues with a wide range of audiences
  • Demonstrate excellent level of analytical ability, communication and interpersonal skills
  • These job responsibilities may require full time physical presence at the office
