The Director is focused on providing the market with an industry leading Special Risk A&H program built on quality, service, and value. The Director will lead in delivering this program through efficient and scalable business processes, sound underwriting, and growth through technology and likeminded distribution partners. The role will be responsible for managing & selling Mandatory Student Accident Plans (MSA), Participant Accident Plans, Intercollegiate Sports Coverage (ICS) to Colleges and Universities, Public and Private School Systems, Municipalities and Parks/Recreation entities through brokers, consultants, MGU’s, MGA’s, and TPAs. Support in the leadership of the Special Risk Team including sales, policy administration and sound underwriting, while assisting with partnerships across the organization, including Finance, Compliance, Legal, Marketing, Claims Operations, and IT. The Director is also the primary person responsible for gaining new business in the education markets. Candidate should have both insight & contribution to Market and a P&L orientation with analytical and influencing skills to support key objectives.
In this role, you will…

  • Be responsible for growth of the following products: Student/Participant Accident Coverage; Intercollegiate Sports Coverage (ICS)
  • Develop long term partnerships with distribution partners that include, but are not limited to: TPA’s, MGU’s, MGA’s, Brokers, and consultants.
  • Craft product messaging, positioning and differentiation strategies for existing and new products and effectively communicate value proposition and business value to key customers and the market
  • In depth knowledge of provider network strength and Wellfleet Value Proposition for the ICS and Participant Accident market
  • Lead the Special Risk Sales, Sales Operations, and Policy Administration Lead product planning and development to accomplish short and long-term strategic and financial goals
  • Help manage Special Risk Underwriting, Claims, Technology, Compliance and Reporting
  • Working understanding of underwriting rating methodology along with knowledge of the experience of accounts and prospects
  • Maintain knowledge of insurance industry, regulations and competitor products and services
  • Including working understanding of legal filing process for, ICS and Participant Accident plan designs
  • Assist in strategic plans by designing tactical approaches to new products and pricing with the ability to think strategically and drive results and implement tactically
  • Build scalable, efficient business processes.
  • Create and influence a sales and marketing plan for meeting/exceeding annual sales goals and produce sales reports
  • Work closely with other SHIP division on cross sale opportunities.
  • Able to work flexible hours and attend meetings outside of the regular workday.

We are looking for candidates with…

  • Bachelor's degree in Business or related field, or equivalent industry experience
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in Sales & Marketing with knowledge of the healthcare industry or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with underwriting methodology, concepts, trends & ratings for both small and large groups
  • Understanding of, and relationships within, our core product suite: ICS, K-12, and Participant Accident.
  • Understanding of General Liability’s role in Special Risk
  • Familiarity and understanding of compliance and regulatory requirements
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong leadership and management skills with proven ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Prior experience with Student Health Insurance and/or Accident and Health Insurance desired
  • Proficiency with CRM and Salesforce and MS office products
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities to meet objectives

  • Self-motivated with ability to drive results with perseverance.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Accident and Health Producer license
