Job Description

The Director of Philanthropy (DOP) is member of the organization’s management team and works with the Chief Advancement Officer (CAO) and Advancement team to help execute the affiliate’s advancement strategy, specifically philanthropic/fundraising initiatives.

The DOP drives the day-to-day operations of the affiliate’s philanthropy and fundraising initiatives including giving societies, special events and annual appeals, while serving as the affiliate’s stewardship and data management expert.

The successful DOP must be an independent self-starter with creativity, vision, and talent for increasing the philanthropic giving outcomes, while at the same time being a strong networker and community spokesperson.


Duties &
Responsibilities

  • Works in partnership with the CAO to develop and implement a comprehensive development program that generates sufficient capital to execute goals of the Board of Directors and affiliate.
  • Manages and supports one direct report (Community Engagement Specialist) in the achievement of their annual goals; and leads entire staff team by influence to integrate a culture of philanthropy across the affiliate.
  • Oversees donor stewardship, gift entry and acknowledgement for financial gifts made to the affiliate, and overall database management.
  • Assists CAO and CEO in implementing new Board of Directors engagement strategy to increase participation in fundraising activities and overall engagement with the mission.
  • Prepares monthly reports and update on Philanthropy division activities as needed to the CEO, CAO, Board of Directors, and committees.
  • Develop, maintain, manage, and grow current individual support and giving societies through development strategies, stewardship, cultivation and engagement, and other giving opportunities.
  • Oversees development and implementation of affiliate’s Annual Campaign, including targeted donor appeals, year-end ask, holiday appeals, board giving appeal) and all components including proposals, asks, and donor relations materials.
  • Oversees planning and execution of affiliate special fundraising events including but not limited to the Raise the Roof Raffle, Blueprint Breakfast, monthly Blueprint Tours, donor/volunteer appreciation events, and a cornhole tournament fundraiser in development stages.
  • Serve as staff representative on affiliate’s Advancement Committee.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Hours of Operation: Monday-Friday 9am-5pm with occasional evenings and weekends as required.

Requirements:


Skills & Qualifications

  • Four-year college degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years’ hands-on experience in donor database management required, preferably in a cloud-based CRM platform.
  • Advanced competency of computers and software in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Teams) required.
  • Demonstrate initiative, problem-solving ability and diplomacy, and ability to perform duties with minimum direction and supervision.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly, concisely, logically, orally, and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to relate well to diverse populations – age, race, class, gender, and creed – while maintaining confidentiality as required.
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills; able to manage multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude towards donors, volunteers, homeowners, and others who interact with the affiliate.
  • Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation.
