The Sky Rink at Chelsea Piers seeks a Director of Facility Maintenance and Operations to be responsible for the oversight and management of all aspects of building operations and ice maintenance, including mechanical, operational, and staffing to ensure we offer facilities that are safe and functioning at the highest level. This position is multi-faceted, with three main areas of responsibility:

• Facility maintenance and building safety
• Ice maintenance and quality
• Housekeeping

Operations

• Provide outstanding external customer service at all times via phone, email, and in-person.
• Maintain compressor room physical plant and accompanying components in excellent operational condition.
• Complete working knowledge and understanding of major mechanicals such as but not limited to boilers, dehumidifiers, and HVAC, etc. and maintain in excellent condition.
• Complete working knowledge and understanding of Olympia ice resurfacing machines and proper ice maintenance/ice quality control.
• Working knowledge of maintenance shop and tools; promote and require safe working environments for all employees.
• Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose operational and mechanical issues with plumbing, electrical, and building.
• Work cohesively with Chelsea Piers Management operations and maintenance departments.
• Educate and train staff to provide on safety and cleaning protocols.
• Financial control, oversight, and management of P&L for all expenses including but not limited to utilities, compressor room, facility maintenance, etc.
• Oversee and give final approval on training of all new Olympia drivers while providing continuing education to all current Olympia drivers.
• Plan, prepare, and develop schedules relating to projects and repairs in conjunction with outside vendors and contractors.

Administrative

• Interview, select, hire, train, staff including maintenance, housekeeping, drivers, and rink safety.
• Schedule, direct, discipline, and monitor progress/performance of all staff including maintenance, housekeeping, drivers, and rink safety.
• Attend weekly Sky Rink and Management meetings as necessary.
• Assist, promote, and build in the development and creation of new programs and improvements to the department’s efforts.
• Work cohesively with all other Sky Rink Directors and programs.
• Negotiate and maintain service contracts with Air Force Mechanical, Wolff Mechanical, M&M Refrigeration companies, and others.

Manager on Duty

• Knowledgeable and conscience of all Sky Rink programs and schedule.
• Present and available throughout working hours to assist with ice cuts, emergencies, customer inquiries, and other program needs.
• Proper appearance with name tag and approved uniform.
• Execute multiple daily facility walk-throughs, and alert Maintenance or General Manager of any concerns or safety issues.
• Working knowledge of Front Office and financial protocols associated with cashiers, registers, and opening/closing drawers.

• College graduate with a four-year degree
• Minimum 3-5 years of operations and facilities management experience
• Minimum 3-5 years of ice operations and maintenance experience
• Must have or work to get Certificate of Fitness and FDNY Fire Guard
• Willing and able to work on feet for 8 hours a day and lift at least 50 lbs
• Bilingual in Spanish a plus
• Excellent written and verbal ability
