Position Purpose

The Director of Development is a full-time position that requires a collaborative and entrepreneurial fundraising professional to help Vivent Health build a comprehensive and sustainable philanthropic development program focused on major gifts in St. Louis. The ideal candidate will have experience building relationships with donors, corporations, foundations, and internal partners. The DoD is joining a development team at a critical time in its growth and expansion to new prospects. S/he will inherit an established and growing donor base and will be responsible for deepening existing donor relationships and qualifying and cultivating new potential donors to further expand major gift efforts regionally.

The unique, nationally recognized Vivent Health HIV Medical home model of care assures that everyone with HIV has access to medical, dental, mental health and social services and provides the best opportunity for patients to achieve high quality health outcomes. Vivent Health also provides aggressive HIV prevention services to gay men, injection drug users and others at the highest risk for HIV infection.

Vivent Health currently operates in multiple states nationwide. It embraces a Market Culture to increase access to care, enhance quality outcomes, achieve and surpass financial performance expectations and has an aggressive plan to expand into additional states.

Essential Functions

  • Leads all fundraising efforts in the region, with a focus on managing a portfolio of 100-120 prospects and securing gifts of $10,000 and above; maintain a strong relationship with current donor base.
  • Identifies top major gift prospects and leadership Annual Fund prospects from within and outside Vivent Health’s network.
  • Creates clear goals and metrics with the Senior Director of Development and Chief Development Officer that reflects portfolio capacity and encourages productivity and growth.
  • Develops individual strategies for prospects and creates a comprehensive stewardship program for their region and portfolio in partnership with development team and communications.
  • Works closely with organizational leadership to strategically identify funding opportunities.
  • Engages and collaborates with all levels of local leadership to execute strategy.
  • Liaises with the Senior Director, Annual Fund to grow annual giving regionally (focused on gifts of $1,000+ initially) including developing strategies and outreach to transition event donors to leadership Annual Fund donors.
  • Coordinates local outreach and fundraising with the Corporate and Foundation Relations team.
  • Acts as liaison and supporter to key philanthropic community organizations, small businesses associated with third party fundraising activities and employee resource groups
  • Sets strategic goals and leads outreach for annual events such as Dining Out For Life & Art of PAWS.
  • Manages and helps to design strategies for various donor cultivation and local stewardship events; including but not limited to “Open House” tours of Vivent Health Facilities and donor receptions.
  • Involves and manages Senior Leadership as necessary in face-to-face cultivation, solicitation, renewal, and stewardship actions for regional top major donors and prospects.
  • Works with Communications to develop and refine fundraising materials, including a Case for Support that resonates nationally and locally, and donor reports via print, website, and social media.
  • Manages and updates portfolio though proper database management ensuring all prospect activities and communications are accurately entered into Raiser’s Edge in a timely manner.
  • Manages a full-time Development Associate.
  • Other appropriate duties, as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience using Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce, or comparable database software preferred
  • Previous experience with Mailchimp a plus.
  • Experience in healthcare a plus.
  • Experience or familiarity with the St. Louis Nonprofit community a plus.
  • Valid Missouri Driver License, insurable driving record, and access to a reliable insured vehicle. Ability to travel.
  • Ability to productively work independently.
  • Able to operate strategically within a large, national organization while balancing the needs of a local market.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and enjoys being part of a growing team.
  • Ambition to work in a metrics-driven environment and is motivated by setting goals and reaching fundraising targets.
  • Reflects an optimistic attitude in representing Vivent to external stakeholders.

  • Sensitivity to and knowledge of HIV/AIDS issues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills are required.
  • Strong Microsoft Office and PC proficiency required.
  • Working knowledge of Spanish language (bilingual) is a plus.

Pay: $95,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
