POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting directly to the Chief Development Officer (CDO), of the Foundation for the Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific (REHAB Hospital) and working with the Foundation team, the Foundation and Hospital Board , the role of the Director of Development is to develop, establish, and carry out an effective multi-year fundraising programs to support the on-going programs, projects and activities of the organization. Develops, plans and implements foundation, corporate and individual donor cultivation, stewardship, outreach events and activities. The Director of Development position is an opportunity for a fundraising professional looking to expand and develop their career in a successful professionally managed and governed non-profit organization.

DEPARTMENT RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develops and successfully carries out the Fundraising Strategy, working closely with the Foundation, Hospital and other departments as needed.
  • Identifies, meets and builds relationships with prospective donors and supporters on a continual basis.
  • Supports the successful completion of an existing donor campaign.
  • Maintains donor gift recognition and stewardship activities to ensure donors are thanked in a timely, consistent and meaningful manner.
  • Compiles and develops materials to submit to granting or other funding organizations.
  • Grows the major gifts program including identification, cultivation, and solicitation of major donors using traditional as well as digital methods. Prepare or assist with preparation of communications materials to aid in securing major gifts and support donor engagement.
  • Recruits, sponsors, participants, and/or volunteers for fundraising events.
  • Manages volunteers for the Foundation, ensuring their attendance, project completion, etc.
  • Attends community events, meetings, or conferences to promote organization goals or solicit donations or sponsorships.
  • Contact corporate representatives, government officials or community leaders to increase awareness of organizational causes, activities, or needs.
  • Works closely with CDO, staff, and Board members to identify income-generating opportunities.
  • Creates an annual work plan and development budget aligned with the Fundraising Strategy,
  • Records all contacts in the organization’s donor database (i.e. Raiser’s Edge) including detailed information about meetings and all communications.
  • Supports the CDO’s development of annual organizational budgets and annual organizational work plan that align with the Fundraising Strategy and organizational Strategic Plan.
  • Monitors and regularly reports to the CDO and Foundation Board on the progress of fundraising drives.
  • Monitor budgets, expense reports, or other financial data related to the new Development program.
  • Supports, encourages and cheerleads our organizational culture of philanthropy.
  • Understands the diversity of customer needs, and demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide services to the customer (i.e. stands in front of a geriatric individual and speaks slowly and distinctly, allows individuals with a disability enough time to complete tasks, etc.).
In addition to the Department Responsibilities, Director of Development are assigned specific focus areas including, but not limited to the following:
  • Builds the planned giving programs with a focus on deferred gifts such as bequest expectancies and apply the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) guidelines regarding tax advantages for different types of contributions by potential donors.
  • Develops and directs employee fundraising activities.
  • Develops and directs plans for capital campaigns, endowment campaigns and other campaigns as appropriate.
  • Secures commitments of donation and/or participation from individuals and corporate donors.
  • Establishes fundraising and/or participation goals for special events including stewardship, donor appreciation activities and specified time-periods. Securing necessary materials, participation, volunteers and plans for the special events.
  • Directs the annual fund program, including mailing and annual stewardship events and activities.

  • Keeps self updated on hospital and unit announcements, including updated policies and procedures.
  • Offers recommendations to improve processes and/or operations of the department.
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects.
  • Interacts openly and professionally while supporting management directives and strategic objectives.

SCOPE OF PRACTICE:
The population served include individuals affected by stroke, orthopedic related conditions, brain and spinal cord injury, amputation, major multiple trauma, and other neurological and medical conditions. REHAB’s patients range from pre-teen to geriatric age ranges.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Certification/Licensure:
  • Valid State of Hawaii driver’s license
Education:
  • Graduate from an accredited college with a Master’s Degree
Skills/Experience:
  • Three (3) to five (5) years experience in the fundraising arena, particularly in successful major donor recruitment and retention, corporate and foundation relationship building, successful donor campaigns, events, strategic planning, and fundraising program development.
