Position Description


We are seeking a true leader - an experienced, self-driven, communicative and energetic Director of Construction for our Lexington, KY office. The position carries the responsibility of ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of GMCI processes and procedures, as well as ultimate responsibility for the performance of the Lexington division. The Director of Construction will lead our staff in successful project management, quality supervision, workforce planning, and more, ensuring the successful completion of projects serviced by the Lexington office and its resources. This position reports directly to the President & CEO.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide strategic leadership, direction, coaching and mentoring to a team of project managers, assistant project managers, field supervisors, and workforce coordinator in providing quality work and supervision that complies with contract requirements.
  • Establish and track key performance indicators for the division and report results to the Chief Financial Officer.
  • Plan and direct staff in their use of company resources to maintain maximum efficiency.
  • Develop a strong working relationship with GMCI’s customers.
  • Manage overall financial control and accountability for Lexington operations.
  • Track project budgets for all projects.
  • Oversee and monitor monthly forecasts, projected billings, and project health reports.
  • Work with Executive Bid Evaluation Committee in forecasting need for new projects and evaluating current and future manpower allocation.
  • Review contract documents and assist with pre-bid conferences and sub/vendor evaluations.
  • Evaluate and pursue opportunities for new business.
  • Maintain and increase subcontractor and vendor base.
  • Work with PM’s and field supervision to assure continual compliance with state and federal licensing agencies.
  • Work with Corporate Controller to oversee project set-up.
  • Review performance of direct reports and monitor supervisory personnel’s reviews.
  • Maintain quality standards for work practices.
  • Coach and develop Project Managers, Assistant Project Managers, Superintendents.
  • Assist Corporate Recruiter in the selection of department personnel, including Senior Project Managers, Project Managers, etc.
  • Ensure proper safety policy and methods are utilized on assigned projects in conjunction with our company Safety Director and stated policy.
  • Collaborate with design team on design-build projects.
  • Represents Green Mechanical at various industry events, local business events, and in trade associations.

Skills/Competencies/Experience

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in construction management or other related fields (mechanical contracting experience preferred).
  • Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or similar degree desired (MBA is a plus).
  • Experience with industrial construction projects is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency with software tools including Procore, TimberScan, Trimble products, construction accounting software, etc.
  • Proficient knowledge in multiple trades (Specifically HVAC, Plumbing, Process, and Controls).
  • Experience with design-build construction. Ability to work with GMCI engineering team.
  • Strong business ethics and moral compass.
  • Excellent work ethic.
  • Knowledge of mechanical construction building codes and building methods.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, ability to take initiative, use good judgment, and demonstrate a strong sense of urgency.
  • Ability to interface with construction industry professionals with professionalism and credibility.
  • High achievement orientation and execution.
