Current Need

We are looking for a talented Director - Executive Communications to join our team. This person will have responsibility for leading the day-to-day development and execution of communications to support McKesson’s CEO and other senior leadership team members. The individual must be a seasoned communications professional with the ability to craft compelling narratives for internal and external stakeholders. This role reports to the Senior Director, Executive Communications, who is part of the internal and executive communications leadership team.

The successful candidate should have deep experience with storytelling and message development for executives and will be well-versed in leveraging traditional and social media channels. She/he should have a track record of serving as a trusted communications advisor to senior leaders. This individual also must have a demonstrated ability to build strong relationships across the company and work collaboratively with people at all levels.

Finally, the successful candidate will be passionate about clear and human communications. This individual will embrace the McKesson corporate voice of “normal, not formal,” helping our executives connect with employees through clear, simple language vs. corporate speak or jargon.

Position Summary

Researches, develops, plans, designs, maintains, and implements policies and programs that enhance the organization's relations with the community, the public, government and regulatory authorities, shareholders, and employees. Delivers communications through various media. Coordinates dissemination of the organization's communications with news or trade media contacts, through special events, public speaking, or other means to reach defined audiences and meet specific program objectives

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and drive clearly defined CEO messages across all channels, reaching and engaging key stakeholders such as employees, customers, business partners, policy makers and local communities.
  • In partnership with our social media team, support the creation and execution of a robust content strategy for CEO social media channels.
  • Create compelling CEO presentations and digital assets in partnership with our creative team.
  • Provide messaging and coordination support for key corporate and business events such as earnings, deals, distribution center openings and company milestones, as well as key civic and community programs demonstrating corporate responsibility.
  • Work collaboratively across company and business unit leadership and peers to continually identify high impact communications opportunities to enhance CEO image and reputation.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for our communications community in a highly matrixed environment.

Minimum Requirements

  • 9+ years of executive communications experience
  • Demonstrated experience supporting CEO
  • Deep writing experience, ideally with an early foundation in agency experience and/or prior work as a reporter/journalist.
  • Experience developing strategic senior leader communications programs and platforms.
  • Experience developing and writing CEO-level speeches/presentations and other support materials.
  • Proven track record of success in message creation around crisis communications/issues/ and financial events.

  • Executive presence, a dynamic professional but “no ego,” and the ability to inspire confidence among leaders and all stakeholders with whom this individual will interact.
  • Working knowledge of the healthcare industry.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Organized, confident, professional, focused and not easily distracted or rattled. Strong emotional intelligence is imperative.
  • Outstanding judgment, intuition, self-starter/strong initiative, and quick learner.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to anticipate company and team needs.
  • Excellent organization and project management skills and a demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects to budget and schedule.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strong partnerships with all facets of the organization to develop and execute plans, leveraging various teams across the organization.

Additional Skills

  • Familiarity with social media platforms.
  • Advanced Microsoft PowerPoint skills.

Education

Bachelor's degree in public relations, journalism, mass media, information technology and/or communications is ideal; graduate degree preferred

Our Base Pay Range for this position

$124,100 - $206,800
