City Experiences is seeking a Director of Training and Development for our Marine operation in Chicago, IL.

The Director of Marine Recruiting, Training and Development is responsible assisting for the professional
development of marine teams across the City Cruises US Fleet. The position ensures development and execution of
a fleet wide marine learning program that fosters a positive environment, professional growth, mentoring, and
coaching leading to the retention of highly skilled marine professionals. Through education, recruitment and
professional development the Director will ensure a competent team of Professional Mariners for current needs and
future growth of the fleet.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates with Hornblower Group verticals to develop and execute all aspects of training, education
    and development for the City Cruises Marine Department.
  • Coordinates with Hornblower Group verticals in the continued development of the Marine Learning
    System, to execute a standardized marine curriculum, share best training practices and track marine
    learning metrics
  • Develops standardized training content and curriculum for marine and engineering personnel and
    personnel filling safety sensitive positions for the City Cruises US Fleet
  • Develops & executes all aspects of Marine University in coordination with the National Marine Team
  • Develop a Train the Trainer Program and identify trainers in each port to ensure consistent and
    available Marine Training
  • Tracks, reports & ensure all regulatory required training is completed across the City Cruises US Fleet
  • Tracks, reports, and ensures all required drills and exercises are completed across the City Cruises
    US Fleet
  • Develops curriculum, training aids, exercises and drills to elevate crew training
  • Works closely with City Directors of Marine Operations to identify bench strength, strong candidates
    for development and formalized training programs for Merchant Mariner Credentialing
  • Work with Hornblower Group verticals to develop and execute the Marine Development Program for
    credentialed and non-credentialed mariners.
  • Works closely with Human Resources and the Recruitment Team to acquire top candidates in Marine
    Operation for credentialed and non-credentialed Mariners.
  • Works with City Directors of Marine Operations to utilize the Marine Training Reimbursement Plan
  • In coordination with Human Resources – review and update Marie Job Descriptions as needed
  • Develop City to City cross training program for Mariner’s to assist in multiple ports
  • Works with City Directors of Marine Operations and General Managers to maximize retention for
    Marine personnel
  • Oversees development, execution of relationships and recruiting with Marine, Academies and High
    Schools that leads to successfully filling marine hiring needs across Hornblower Group.
  • Works with Human Resources to develop Marine Onboarding Plan for each new hire or promotion to
    include a Professional Growth Portfolio
  • Perform other position related duties as specified by management
  • Additional job duties as assigned

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of the maritime environment of the passenger vessel industry
  • Demonstrated success at executing a successful marine training program
  • Detailed knowledge of shipboard training requirements for navigation, deck operations, damage
    control, firefighting, engineering, safety, and security.
  • Must possess valid 100-ton USCG Captain’s License
  • Prior experience managing employees
  • Proficient in public speaking and presentations
  • Proficient in the English language and possess strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Four (4) year college education in maritime or related studies preferred
  • Ability to interpret and execute complex oral and written instructions
  • Computer literate with strong skills in Microsoft Office, Word, Power Point
  • Experience with web based Preventative Maintenance Program preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills to establish, maintain and work effectively with all levels of management
    and employees
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all sensitive communications
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction and supervision
  • Possess a valid TWIC card
  • Must possess a valid state drivers' license for occasional use of company vehicle or rental car
  • Valid Merchant Mariner's Document/Credential preferred
