The Director, Learning leads the development, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of AAAHC’s educational programming for AAAHC surveyors, accredited organizations, organizations seeking accreditation and relevant stakeholders, in a variety of formats (e.g., live in-person, online/virtual, etc.). The individual in this role collaborates with subject matters experts to develop and deliver adult learning content and programming. The director will research, develop and execute new learner experiences with a focus on efficacy, impact, sustainability, revenue and budget impact, and conduct needs assessments to identify gaps and potential new learner initiatives. They will analyze data to identify unmet needs, and evaluate performance of current activities against audience satisfaction and financial targets. The Director, Learning, manages all aspects (i.e., meeting planning, logistics, registration, curriculum, budget) of in-person and distance learning seminars, conferences, etc.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, evaluate, and continuously improve engaging learner experiences in a variety of formats (e.g., live in-person, online/virtual (e.g., synchronous/asynchronous online courses, webinars), and blended for all learning styles and audience segments
  • Collaborate with and manage subject matter expert work (SMEs, committee members, other AAAHC volunteers, and staff) to develop and deliver a diverse mix of learning content and programming in both live and other enduring formats (e.g. print, digital), using a variety of delivery methods
  • Research, develop, and execute new learner experiences with a focus on efficacy, impact, sustainability, and revenue potential and budget impact
  • Collaborate with other staff, conduct periodic needs assessments of clients and AAAHC surveyors to identify gaps and potential new learner experience initiatives; analyze data to identify unmet needs, new audiences, and emerging topics; evaluate performance of current activities against audience satisfaction and financial targets, and conduct periodic analyses of competitors’ educational offerings (at least annually)
  • Manage all aspects (i.e., meeting planning, logistics, registration, curriculum) of AAAHC’s in-person and distance learning seminars, conferences, classes, and/or workshops; develop annual delivery calendar and department budget
  • Keep abreast of relevant third-party accreditation standards for continuing education providers (e.g., IACET, ACCME) and their respective policies and procedures; ensure that AAAHC educational offerings are in compliance, and pursue/maintain recognition or accreditation with relevant providers, as needed based on market demand and value proposition
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive project plan for managing the ongoing creation, revision, curation, and dissemination of relevant, high quality content, consistent with best practices in adult learning/continuing education and instructional design
  • Develop selection criteria and implement a process for the recruitment, orientation/training and ongoing professional development of AAAHC Faculty (i.e., SMEs that contribute to content development and/or teach or present this content to stakeholders in different learning modes/formats)
  • Develop and implement a process for the initial training of new surveyors, and the ongoing professional development of current AAAHC Surveyors (i.e., SMEs that conduct accreditation surveys of organizations seeking accreditation through AAAHC) in different learning modes/formats; collaborate with Surveyor Services and other departments on curriculum development and design
  • Guide the work of AAAHC education-focused committee(s) in guiding education policies and contributing to curriculum development
    • Recruit, train, and provide ongoing support to committee members and technical panel experts
    • Schedule and facilitate conference calls, webinars, and both virtual and in-person committee and technical panel meetings; draft meeting agendas, supporting materials and minutes, as specified by the organization
  • Collaborate with Marketing & Business Development on education promotion to maximize target audience participation
  • Hire, manage, mentor, evaluate, and develop all direct reports to assure cross-department collaboration and synergies; oversee the quality and quantity of work performed to optimize alignment with departmental and organizational goals and objectives

Minimum Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Education or relevant field of study
  • Minimum 10 years progressive work experience in adult education
  • Minimum of five years direct people management experience
  • Current knowledge of and experience with web-based and other e-learning technologies
  • Demonstrated project management experience and skill
  • Working knowledge of adult learning theories, instructional design, and curriculum development; experience managing adult education, professional development, and continuing education programs in a variety of formats/modes
  • Experience managing online learning and the administration of learning management systems (LMS)
  • Advanced reasoning, analysis, critical thinking, and language abilities (reading, technical writing, and speaking), with strong communication, writing, and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated results-oriented leadership and meeting management experience
  • Proven technical acumen in planning, problem-solving and consensus building
  • Ability to budget for and execute multiple projects against demanding timelines
  • Proficiency with all MS Office products

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in related field strongly preferred
  • Comparable experience with managing continuing education/professional development programs for healthcare professionals
  • Proficiency using Adobe Captivate, Adobe Photoshop, Articulate Storyline, Lectora, Camtasia, etc., in creating and producing compelling online/interactive content (including audio and/or video).
  • Knowledge of emerging and progressive instructional design techniques and strategies (e.g., mobile learning, JIT training, social learning).
