The Community Energy Department is seeking an experienced Deputy Director to oversee Customer Account Management, Marketing, and Communications functions for the Department. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Community Energy and will be responsible for account management and billing services, business development, customer relations, community engagement, marketing, and communications. This position oversees all account management functions for approximately 50,000 commercial customers and 300,000 residential customers to ensure high quality customer service. The Deputy Director is an integral part of the Department’s executive team.

The Deputy Director will have responsibilities that include the following:

  • Lead SJCE’s account services team, developing and maintaining relationships with commercial customers such as large tech companies as well as small businesses.
  • Forecast SJCE’s annual revenue plan and achieve targets by tracking electricity usage by customer class and cash collections and coaching the team to provide high quality customer service.
  • Lead SJCE’s rate-making recommendations and implementation of new rates
  • Oversee customer communications regarding rates and billing issues.
  • Oversee all internal and contracted services for data management, billing services, and the customer call center.
  • Oversee staff to liaise with PG&E and customers to resolve all customer issues and ensure that the department is providing excellent customer service.
  • Oversee all press releases and external relations. Serve as a liaison with the media and community groups to ensure the department is responsive to community concerns.
  • Oversee all department marketing strategies and communications including, print, social media, enewsletters, and the department’s website.
  • Provide direction, guidance, and review of community outreach plans as well as business development plans to support customer retention and improve cost-effectiveness.
  • Oversee support of the Clean Energy Community Advisory Commission and engage commissioners on rate recommendations, power supply choices, and customer programs as well as other issues impacting the Department.
  • Provide leadership and collaborate with staff in the Department, the City Manager’s Office, Finance, Intergovernmental Relations, and the City Attorney’s Office to achieve Department and City objectives
  • Collaborate and build contacts with external stakeholders, including CalCCA, other CCA staff, regulatory agencies, community organizations, and the public to ensure SJCE’s services meet Department objectives and the needs of our customers and community.

The approved annual salary range for this position is $140,154.56 - $226,257.20. This amount includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable pay. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidate’s qualifications and experience.
