About The Job

Sandy Spring Bank is currently recruiting for a Deposit Operations New Account Specialist in the Deposit Operations Department. If you are the chosen candidate, you will be responsible for opening and processing all types of consumer and commercial deposit accounts including fulfilling requests for complex products such as, HSA, IRA, escrows, IOLTA, MAHT, CRESPA, and collateral accounts. A strong emphasis on fulfillment of all types of deposit accounts. Answers questions and/or resolves complex technical problems on all consumer and commercial deposit accounts. Provides an exceptional client experience to all internal and external partners.

Areas of focus:

  • Possess knowledge and ability to establish and service all types of deposit accounts including personal checking, savings, time deposits, IRAs, and HSAs, and commercial accounts. Obtain all required client information according to bank policy and procedures.
  • Responsible for accurate and timely preparation of all documents, correspondence and follow-up of related client service and sales requests.
  • Composes basic correspondence in response to client inquiries, including email responses. Monitors and responds to email from all areas of the banks electronic delivery methods.
  • Mitigate risk by reviewing all new accounts established online, close as necessary, update Security as needed.
  • Processes daily HSA deposits in a timely manner and supports requests from employers which offer HSA benefits to their employees through SSB. (Mailing enrollment packets, answering questions, getting new accounts set up.)
  • Represents the Bank to the client in a courteous, professional manner, and provides prompt, efficient, and accurate service by phone, mail, fax, or email.
  • Handle complex transactions such as deposits, withdrawals, certificate of deposits, in an accurate and efficient manner. Follow all established policies and procedures including audit, security, and compliance regulations.
  • Resolve issues regarding customer accounts. Perform other administrative duties as assigned.

Required Skills:

  • Work requires a high level of analytical ability resulting in the use of independent judgment with limited interaction with the manager on daily decisions. Real time decisions regarding varying situations require a basic understanding of operational workflow. In addition, a clear understanding of the potential impact to other internal areas, as well as, the risk to the Bank regarding negative impact is required when considering alternatives.
  • Ability to effectively and professionally express ideas, written and orally required. Strong written skills and verbal communication skills are required to communicate via telephone or email. Must be able to explain problems clearly and interact in a professional and positive manner to achieve consensus.
  • Work requires independent thinking and subsequent judgment to resolve and communicate problems while protecting the client and workflow. The ability to process a high volume of work proficiently within quality guidelines is required while maintaining an organized filing system and work area.
  • Ability to utilize a standard PC with related software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio, Access, and other Windows applications is required. Will be trained on custom software applications required to complete daily duties.
