Summary:
This position is responsible for the cleanliness and safety of the Regional school facility and
grounds. The Maintenance Worker will interface with school staff, the Business Manager,
vendors and City agencies. This position will immediately address operational and/or safety
concerns and will ensure that school equipment, tools, materials and supplies are maintained in
good working order and is available at school.

Job Requirements: 
High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) and at least three years related
experience 
Certificate of Fitness and OHSA Certification required or must be willing to take initial/ongoing required training courses (Company/school pays for training)
 Experience working with and reading boilers in addition to fixing minor plumbing problems
(e.g.: replacing a faucet and flushometer) 
Possess the manual dexterity to handle tools safely
 Flexible work hours; must be available for school events and emergencies
 Prior experience dealing with vendors for maintenance projects (e.g.: negotiating quotes of
labor and material)
 Ability to meet the physical demands of lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs unassisted, standing,
bending and climbing ladders
 Must be able to work in inclement weather conditions to perform duties such as snow
removal, etc.
 Prior experience dealing with City agencies such as FDNY, NYPD and Department of
Buildings
 May be required to work during school closings and breaks
 Ability to exercise sound judgment and work autonomously to complete job functions in a
timely fashion
 Assist school staff as needed

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: 
Performs routine maintenance on building interior and exterior and equipment; keeping
building(s) and grounds neat and clean at all times.
 Turns on the boiler/air conditioner at the start of morning to ensure proper heating/cooling of
the building.
 Contacts and schedules vendors and contractors for necessary building repairs and
emergencies that are outside the scope of routine maintenance. 
Maintains a schedule of when maintenance has been performed and when next service is due. 
Works in a safe manner and recognizes unsafe situations; proactively takes appropriate action
to ensure safety for all occupants of the building. 
Performs routine fire drills and logs activity. 
Cleans and maintains all assigned workspaces and equipment.
 Ensures the building and grounds are kept secured by locking all doors and gates after use
and at end of work day.
 Performs scheduled walkthroughs of the building with the Principal to identify and log
necessary repairs or improvements.
 Maintains responsibility for the safe guarding and duplication of keys for the school and
works with the Main Office to maintain listing of those who hold keys.
 Ensures the removal of snow and ice by shoveling, plowing, and/or sanding walks,
driveways, parking areas and steps as necessary.
 Assists in maintaining seasonal grounds work (e.g.: lawn, flower, tree planting/maintenance,
etc).
 Arranges furniture and equipment for the purpose of providing adequate preparations for
special events (e.g.: meetings, school performance, etc).
 Reports any damage or vandalism to facilities, or theft of equipment.
 Understands and follows safety procedures as provided by the regional management.
 Perform other duties as assigned/needed
