JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Perform custodial and general labor tasks in the cleaning and care of public buildings, grounds and facilities; and to perform related work as required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Work is performed under the supervision of a designated official.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None
TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK: An employee in this class may be called upon to do any or all of the following: (These examples do not include all of the tasks which an employee may be expected to perform).
Dust, sweep, mop, wax and polish furniture, floors and walls.
Wash windows, walls and woodwork.
Report broken windows and replace burned out lights.
Operate buffing and cleaning equipment.
Gather and dispose of refuse.
Check and replenish lavatory supplies.
Move records, furniture and equipment as required.
Check and lock doors in buildings.
Shovel snow and salt sidewalks in winter.
Perform related work as required.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT:
Reasonable knowledge of methods, materials and equipment used in facilities maintenance.
Some knowledge of accepted cleaning methods and materials and of the care of cleaning equipment.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Good physical health with the ability to lift and move 40lbs.
Stamina to walk and climb stairs.
Ability to work effectively with others.
Ability to work in all outdoor weather.
Ability to pass drug screen policy.
Ability to pass criminal history LEIN database requirement.
An employee in this class, upon appointment, should have the equivalent of the following training and experience.
Graduation from an accredited high school.
Some experience in building cleaning and minor maintenance work amounting to a minimum of one (1) month.
Some computer skills.
Valid driver's license.
