Custodian - Central Services

Job Description


General Statement of Job:

This job description pertains to any and all custodial duties of Central Services. He/she must work with and sometimes at the direction of the office manager or Assistant Superintendent. The Custodian will assist any personnel in Central Services as requested or needed. This position reports to the Assistant Superintendent of Facilities and Operations.


Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • All Janitorial duties as assigned
  • Pick up and Deliver mail daily to/from Post Office if needed
  • Deliver courier mail once a week to each LCPS location
  • Assist with mail bags daily
  • Maintain office areas by cleaning, vacuuming carpet, rugs, door, and thresholds
  • Cleaning inventory stockroom, high speed buffing office
  • Receive and put up supplies
  • Dust desktop, computer hardware, printer, and chair; clean telephone
  • Sweep exterior side of front entrance, shake doormat(s), and wipe down spider webs; remove abandoned flats into storage or place in dumpster
  • Strip and wax office floor for the year and clean carpet with the host machine
  • Blow off parking lot, and remove equipment from inventory room for surplus sale


Additional Job Functions or Assigned Tasks:

  • Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent


Minimum Training and Experience:

  • High school diploma, GED or related area preferred
  • Congenial and capable of communicating with people
  • Capable of positive spontaneous reaction
  • Flexible
  • Capable of comprehending instruction and following through with said instructions


Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Job Functions:

  • Familiar with all types of janitorial supplies
  • Familiar with all janitorial equipment
  • Received additional training to improve knowledge of job duties


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects


Other Requirements:

  • Maintain a valid North Carolina Driver’s License
  • Maintain an acceptable attendance record and be punctual
