The duties include but are not limited to:

    Establish, implement and update as necessary a custodial program for MCPSS to insure that custodial work is completed safely and security and that System facilities are maintained in a clean and sanitary manner. Writes instructions, procedures, directions and technical specifications.
    Performs regular reviews of government and industry standards and product innovations to ensure best practices are used within MCPSS in relation to chemicals, equipment, procedures, etc.
    Evaluates custodial staffing levels at MCPSS facilities to ensure appropriate cleanable square footage per custodian.
    Establishes approved custodial supply budget and tracks based on square footage and facility usage.
    Plan annual and individualized training sessions and professional development opportunities to provide instruction on safe techniques and procedures, proper equipment use and approved cleaning methods. Ensures employee participation in said training opportunities.
    Ensures custodial and janitorial issues identified by onsite maintenance technicians are addressed in a timely manner.
    Interfaces with the local school administration and environmental services program provider in determining the duties of the cleaning staff.
    Inspects buildings, rooms, and facilities for cleanliness and proper maintenance.
    Requisitions and maintains reports of work and materials utilized.
    Evaluates the custodial program and workers to determine their ability to perform their duties as outlined and reports the results to the local school administration.
    Maintains accurate and timely record of time, labor, and materials.
    Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with supervisors, foremen, and other individuals employed, i.e. principals and other school staff.
    Handles other duties assigned by the Executive Manager, Facilities.
    This position may also be required to work after hours and weekends when necessary.
    This position may also be required to perform duties on shift work-schedules.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be a high school graduate from a regionally accredited school or have GED equivalent.

Must have extensive background in all phases of the construction/environmental industry.

Must be physically capable of performing described duties.

Must have prior experience in custodial or janitorial activities.

Must have extensive knowledge of custodial and janitorial services and general knowledge of construction, writing technical specifications, cost estimating, construction supervision and fiscal accounting.

Must be familiar with local, state, and federal building codes.

Must have ten (10) years experience in environmental services or a combination of training and experience and must demonstrate ability to perform work.

Must have working knowledge of chemical dispensing units and MSDS systems.

Must have knowledge and experience in all floor types, VCT, Hard wood, ceramic, carpet, etc.

Must have ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, oversee zone custodial leads, 12 month custodians, custodians and crews, and adhere to cleaning schedules.

**Applicants selected for classified positions must undergo (or have undergone) an ABI/FBI criminal history background check (fingerprinting administered through sites selected and approved by the MCPSS and State of Alabama Education Department) and be declared suitable and fit to teach under state law. Applicants selected must also pass a drug-screening test via forms provided by Human Resources during the selection process.**
