The Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Port Administration (MDOT MPA) is currently seeking a Cruise Operations Assistant (DOT Non-Exempt I). The purpose of this position is to provide staff support and administrative support to the Cruise Operations Manager for all cruise operational activities. This position will maintain contact and working relationships with all for-hire contractors and vendors, management and staff that work at the cruise terminal, as well as terminal operators, stevedores, and port agents. The position is responsible for coordinating the readiness of the cruise building for cruise guests, passengers, and visitors on cruise days, as well as ensuring that all terminal security mandates are in place for the start-up of ship arrival and throughout the day when cruise ships are in port.

Employees in this class are considered essential employees and are subject to call-in 24 hours a day, as may be required in order to maintain continuous and safe operation of a facility. Employees may be required to work rotating shift work, to include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

The current vacancy exists at MDOT MPA's Dundalk Marine Terminal in Baltimore, Maryland.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two (2) years of experience acting as a liaison coordinating programs or correspondences between a unit or department in a transportation or military setting, including internal and external contacts.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:


  • Ability to perform customer services functions
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment
