As a Blair County Children, Youth, and Families Caseworker you will make a difference in children's lives by providing them with safety and protection. We are seeking compassionate, motivated communicators who want to help families. In this non-case carrying role, you are responsible to be the primary screener for the agency.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

A County Caseworker 1 in Blair County is a change agent for this community. You are given a chance to grow and empower others. Blair County Children, Youth and Families is committed to strengthening families; protecting the rights and welfare of children in this community and insuring that children have an opportunity for healthy growth and development, free from abuse or neglect. In this role as screener, you will not be carrying a case load.

Our caseworkers secure the safety, permanency, and well-being of our children by responding to reports of child abuse and neglect, investigating allegations, coordinating with law enforcement, testifying in court, and connecting with service providers, family members, and other resources. Blair County Children, Youth and Families is a fast-paced, dynamic workplace filled with supportive team members. While working with us, you will gain a wealth of experience that will serve as a base for whatever path you choose in the social services or criminal justice.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:


  • Full-time employment.
  • Work hours are 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • Competitive benefits package starts first of the month following 45 workdays and includes 90% employer-paid PPO health insurance with prescription and vision components, defined benefit pension plan, defined contribution plan, group term life insurance, one sick day earned a month, and 14 annual paid holidays.
  • Opportunity to work overtime, emergency duty and receive call out pay. Rotating Emergency Duty coverage for after-hour calls.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree which includes or is supplemented by successful completion of 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or
  • Two years of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 and two years of college level course work which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences and one year of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 or in a similar position performing paraprofessional case management functions.
  • Candidates may apply within two months of graduating with a bachelor’s degree.
Other Requirements:
  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • Hiring preference for this vacancy will be given to candidates who live within Blair County. If no eligible candidates who live within Blair County apply for this position, candidates who reside in Bedford, Cambria, Centre, or Huntingdon counties will be considered. If no eligible candidates who live within these counties apply for this position, candidates who reside in other counties will be considered.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements:
  • A conditional offer of employment will require drug screening.
  • You must pass a background investigation.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
