Counselor | St. Gregory Recovery Center | Bayard, Iowa
Job Summary:

The primary therapist provides intensive, professional counseling services to a caseload of
clients with a primary diagnosis of alcohol and/or drug addiction. Oversees
implementation of treatment plans. Has regular contact with referral sources. Identifies
family issues needing addressing before discharge. Plans treatment services as required.
Job Duties:

1. Assess assigned clients and develop individualized treatment plans.
2. Completes assessments and other required documentation according to policy to procedure.
3. Conduct individual counseling session with assigned clients.
4. Document individual counseling sessions with assigned clients in accordance with facility policy and procedures, State regulations and CARF standards within the established time frame.
5. Conduct group therapy sessions on a regular basis as scheduled.
6. Document individual and group therapy sessions within established time frames and according to policies and procedures.
7. Demonstrate thorough knowledge of counseling theory and techniques.
8. Demonstrate adequate knowledge of DSM-5.
9. Develop and implement appropriate therapeutic activities and/or programs.
10. Address issues identified in the treatment plans and focus on problems that occur.
11. Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of group process, mental illness/substance abuse, developmental disabilities, and other designated skill areas.
12. Conduct emergency counseling sessions as needed.
13. Appropriately de-escalate disruptive or crisis situations.
14. Be appropriately available to clients during times of emotional, physical or life crisis.
15. Present appropriate client information to the treatment team; participate in team discussion and evaluation of client goals, objectives and motivations.
16. Maintain knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate books, journals, and other literature and attending related seminars and conferences.
17. Complete all facility required documentation within required time frames. 18. Other duties as assigned.
