The Department of Unemployment Assistance (DUA) administers the Unemployment Insurance (UI) Program which provides temporary income assistance to Massachusetts workers who are unemployed through no fault of their own and who are able to work and looking for a job.

The Compliance Officer I is responsible for ensuring employer tax compliance and pursuing delinquent debt in accordance with established Revenue Enforcement procedures outlined in Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 151A. The incumbent must research and resolve employer accounts with major delinquencies through the identification of accounts from assigned cases, compliance checks and daily activity. The incumbent must be able to communicate tactfully with employers, attorneys, CPAs, internal and external state agency contacts and other third parties. The incumbent will perform all related work as required, including the ability to manage a large case load, system testing and special projects including the UI Modernization project. Duties will include, but not limited to:

  • Cold calling, filing certified assessments, liens, bank levies, federal and state tax intercept program and tax compliance programs established through DUAs partner agencies
  • Identifying, monitoring, and assisting in the preparation of employer tax cases to be referred to the Office of the Attorney General for criminal prosecution
  • Maintaining various databases, responding to inquiries via mail, email, and incoming telephone lines, in order to provide information concerning agency policies and procedures, laws, rules and regulations governing agency activities

We are currently working in a remove work environment. Employees will need to be in a reasonable commutable distance to work in the Boston Office as we transition to a hybrid work model.

SALARY PLACEMENT IS DETERMINED BY YEARS OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE POSITION AND THE HUMAN RESOURCES DIVISION'S RECRUITING GUIDELINES. IN THE CASE OF A PROMOTIONAL OPPORTUNITY, THE SALARY PROVISIONS OF THE APPLICABLE COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT WILL BE UTILIZED FOR PLACEMENT WITHIN THE SALARY RANGE.

Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in investigatory, law enforcement or regulatory administration work, or (B) and equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.

Substitutions:
A Bachelor's or higher degree may be substituted for the required experience.*

  • Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
