Position Summary

The CNC Machine Shop Lead will coordinate daily operations in the machining area, including personnel activities, adherence to schedules, ensuring safety protocols, and resolution of production problems in the department. This position will also perform production machining duties as needed and oversee the tooling and supplies needed to support production operations. Candidate must be able to inspect your parts using micrometers, height gages, gage pins, comparators, and other standard inspection tools. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership abilities, preferably combined with formal supervisory education and experience in a lead role. Leading by example comes naturally to you.

Skills and Responsibilities

  • Minimum of 5 years of machining experience, with one year in supervision.
  • Strong knowledge of programming and setup of CNC Lathes and Mills.
  • Ability to take part from set up to first article with minimal assistance.
  • Program, set up, and run various machines in a high-mix workflow.
  • Ability to monitor and provide feedback to operators by performing in-process inspections.
  • Must have a solid grasp of blueprints, shop drawings, schematics, Travelers, and other drawing documents.
  • Create tooling and process setup sheets for the new part introduction.
  • Review quality concerns from piece part inspection and correct processes accordingly.
  • Train and motivate new and current machinists on best practices.
  • Scheduling and prioritization of projects in the shop with adaptability to changes in a dynamic engineering environment.
  • Maintain the shop equipment as required per PM schedule.
  • Take the lead on shop improvement projects.
  • Ability to work efficiently, effectively, independently, and as a team with minimal supervision.
  • Use shop measurement equipment, calipers, micrometer, and comparators.
  • CAM programming and Fusion360 experience are a plus.
  • CNC Lathe and Mill set up.
  • Manual machining experience.
  • Strong shop math.
  • Troubleshooting machinability issues on difficult-to-machine materials.
  • PC skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments
  • Walking, standing, sitting, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, etc., is required
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to fifty pounds
  • Work safely under functional guidelines such as PPE and equipment operation.
  • May be exposed to variable noise levels, fumes, hazardous chemicals, or airborne particles.
