Job Description:

Interacts directly with pediatric patients, families and other health team members and facilitates age-appropriate interactions and activities to help make the health care experience easier for patients and families, reduces patient and family distress, increases effective patient and family coping, fosters patient independence, and promotes optimum development. Child Life Fellow will be under the guidance of a CCLS, to continue in the learning process, and increase their clinical knowledge.
  • This is a one-year fellowship position.

    Sunday FYZ playroom/on-call; Monday-Thursday 6:30am-3:00pm CPC/MI

Job Essentials

Accurately assesses, prioritizes, and documents pediatric patient and family care
Develops, implements, and evaluates effective pediatric patient and family centered health care plans.
Provides developmentally-appropriate education, psychological procedural preparation, coping support, comfort management, and play opportunities, to pediatric patients and families
Complete assigned readings and attend educational meetings
Complete fellowship assignments, goals, or projects
Participate in planning, organizing, and carrying out special events or holiday celebrations
Adjust goals and interventions, as needed, to meet individual needs and support diverse populations



Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree . Education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Degree will be verified.

Child Life Certification from Association of Child Life Professionals (ACLP) or eligible for Child Life Certification (to be obtained within 6 months of hire date) .

Child life experience in a medical or hospital setting.

Computer experience in word processing, spreadsheets, and databases or similar applications.
- and -
Experience in Child Life Core Competencies which include but are not limited to: 1) Assess development & psychosocial needs 2) Establishing & maintain supportive relationships 2) Meeting needs of child and family members, with a focus on social, emotional, and cognitive development. 3) Guiding children in therapeutic play techniques 4) Provide a safe, therapeutic, and healing environment 5) Provide coping support and comfort management 6) Providing education to and communicating with children, families and team members 7) Practice within the scope of professional knowledge and skill base 8) Ongoing assessment and written documentation of clinical care.

Successfully completed child life internship with completion documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree.

Spanish Speaking.

Physical Requirements:

Interact with others requiring employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information.
